Best to begin limbering up as next weekend you can be off towards the races in the special Weekend of Races scheduled for being held on November 5th - 7th. During the event, a whole schedule of just one-hour races will get rid of every second hour -- meaning sixty minutes on, an hour off that could see players taking home some pretty spiffy prizes.
For those wondering POE Orbs why there is not any formal race season, GGG's Chris Wilson had this to convey:
    We're currently working on the revolutionary 2.5.0 league (for December) and our largest-ever expansion, 3.0.0, which are going to be released pick up. To hit these deadlines, we now have decided never to put development resources towards new race technology yet. Despite Path of Exile's popularity increasing with each release, our race season attendance has become getting worse season after season. We are positive that improvements like asynchronous racing will solve this, though the time will not be now. I am very sorry to your racing community. I understand that your weekend of races isn't a great replacement for a total ranked season with new prizes, but hopefully it's enjoyable and enough to scratch the racing itch for a lot of players. I'm also sorry about not communicating Buy POE Orbs this earlier, but we merely made the letter recently (with much internal debate) and wanted to create sure there was some events planned to be a replacement.
