KIGALI Artemi Panarin Jersey , Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan nationals residing in Rwanda on Tuesday participated in general elections by casting their votes at the diplomatic mission in the capital city Kigali.

The elections in Kenya are for the President, county governor, senator, Member of Parliament, woman representative and member of county assembly.

The voters began arriving at the Kenyan High Commission in Kacyiru sector, Gasabo district as early as 6 a.m. where a polling station had been established. By 11 am, at least 100 people had cast their votes.

Speaking to Xinhua, Catherine Koskey, the presiding officer for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) at the embassy said that there have been no incidents and voters woke up as early as 6 a.m. to exercise their rights.

"We started at 6 a.m. and are hoping to close at 5 p.m. We are encouraging Kenyans living in Rwanda who are registered voters to hurry and vote before deadline," she said.

According to Koskey, about 850 Kenyans in Rwanda registered to vote at the Kenya High Commission in Kigali.

The main presidential contest is between incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta, the flag bearer of Jubilee coalition and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, leader of the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Also on the list of candidates are six other independent candidates.

"I'm glad that Kenyans have turned up to vote and no incidents and violence. I believe things will get better after this election. I pray for peaceful elections," said Eugene Anangwe, a Kenyan journalist living in Rwanda.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of top scientists on Tuesday published an open letter warning against claims by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump that if elected he would advocate U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 Paris Accord on climate change.

"Human-caused climate change is not a belief, a hoax, or a conspiracy. It is a physical reality," said the letter, signed by 375 members of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, including 30 Nobel laureates and renowned scientists such as Stephen Hawking.

The U.S. withdrawal would "send a clear signal to the rest of the world: 'The United States does not care about the global problem of human-caused climate change,'" they warned.

The letter also said the consequences of opting out of the Paris agreement would be severe and long-lasting for our planet's climate and for the international credibility of the United States.

"The United States can and must be a major player in developing innovative solutions to the problem of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases," it wrote.

"Walking away from Paris makes it less likely that the U.S. will have a global leadership role, politically, economically, or morally. We cannot afford to cross that tipping point."

Trump has called climate change "a hoax" and said the Paris Accord was "bad for U.S. business."

"We're going to cancel the Paris climate agreement and stop all payments of U.S. tax dollars to U.N. global warming programs," he said in a speech on May 26 this year.

ATHENS, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Greek football matches in all professional leagues have been suspended for this weekend, as well as the next one, according to an Hellenic Football Association (EPO) announcement, following a violent attack against a referees' committee official on Friday.

It is the second time in two months that there is a football shutdown in Greece due to violence inside and outside stadiums.

On September 15 a fan was fatally injured during clashes between fans at the stands of a stadium in Crete island during a third division match.

This time it was Christoforos Zografos, deputy director of the Central Referees' Committee, who was admitted to hospital after being attacked with wooden clubs and iron bars by two unidentified perpetrators in a central Athens district.

After the attack EPO and the referees' committee decided to not appoint any referees for coming matches, while government officials, clubs representatives and players made pleas for an end to violence.

Greek football has suffered from hooliganism for years and in the past two years there have been at least two serious attacks against referees.

Tech industry titans Tim Cook and Eric Schmidt took their battle for corporate domination to the heart of Europe on Tuesday seeking to win over new startups and IT (Other OTC: ITGL - news) enthusiasts.

In a rare move, Apple (LSE: 0R2V.L - news) chief executive Cook and his bitter rival, Alphabet (Xetra: ABEA.DE - news) boss Schmidt appeared at the opening day of a seminar organised in Amsterdam for the week-long Startup Europe Fest -- although they did not take the stage together.

And Schmidt, chief executive for Alphabet and former Google boss, triggered laughter when he revealed he had an iPhone -- made by his rival -- in his pocket as well as a Samsung.

When an audience show of hands revealed more people had an iPhone than an Android, Schmidt said ironically: "So much for the Android monopoly in Europe."

"The Samsung is better, has a better battery. Are we clear?" he insisted. "And to those of you who are iPhone users, I'm right!"

At the top of the corporate world, Apple and Google are in a back-and-forth battle to be number one.
