The former Redskin is tearing up the Alliance of American Football"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Looks Like Someone Has A Sixpack Of The MondaysDaily SlopRedskins RecapsEDTShareTweetShareShareShould the Redskins try to re-sign Rashad Ross?Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY SportsFootball fans around the country that don’t follow the Washington Redskins have been asking questions about the hottest receiver in the Alliance of American Football (the AAF).In case you don’t know Josh Doctson Jersey , the former Redskin has been tearing up the new league playing for the 3-3 Arizona Hotshots. In six games, Ross has 29 catches for 452 yards, 6 touchdowns and a 2-point conversion. He is averaging 15.6 yards per catch.Hisproduction has been consistent, and he hasn’t slowed down at all. He’s had at least 4 catches and 50 yards in every game this season, and has only one game without a touchdown. He’s had at least one catch for 15 yards or more in every game as well.Extrapolating for the 16-game season that NFL fans are used to thinking about, Ross is on pace to put up these numbers:77 catches1,205 yards16 touchdownsI realize that he’s playing minor league ball, but these would be pro-bowl numbers in the NFL.If he were able to achieve just one-third of this production on an NFL field Chase Roullier Jersey , it would make him a useful receiver.Ross is also a capable return man.You can see that Ross has hauled in his 29 catches on just 42 targets. That 69% catch rate is pretty impressive when paired with the 15.6 yards per catch number.Heck, he’s averaging 15.4 air yards per target!Ross as a RedskinIn addition to spending time on the Practice Squad, Ross was on the regular roster for 18 games as a Redskin in ‘15 and ‘16, when the wide receiver depth chart was:Pierre GarconDesean JacksonJamison CrowderRyan GrantMaurice HarrisRashad Ross Ross didn’t see the field much, grabbing just 9 receptions for 192 yards (21 yards per catch!) in 18 games, spread across the two seasons that he was on the 53-man roster.Maybe the Redskins gave up on him too soon. It’s true that Ross never really got any traction in the NFL:But the 29 year old has certainly made the most of his opportunity with the Hotshots in the AAF.He’s got some traction there. The story line on the AAF in this inaugural season has been that it is both a developmental league and a ‘second chance’ league.Americans love underdogs and Cinderella stories. Most sports fans love a “tryer”.Could there be any better story of redemption and success than a marginal NFL player like Ross who spent two seasons buried on the Redskins depth chart behind a pair of 1,000-yard receivers taking a shot by going to the new Spring league, making a name for himself and then returning to his former NFL team for another chance?Click here to read about the top-ten AAF players who could be in the NFL next yearRoss is possessed of serious speed. In the AAF Deshazor Everett Jersey , at least, he has demonstrated that he can catch the ball downfield. The Redskins have, possibly, the worst receiving corps in the National Football League.Could it hurt to call Ross’s agent? Hogs Haven takes a look at 2019 NFL Draft prospects that could contribute to the Redskins"Ben Burr-Kirven, LBSchool: Washington | Conference: PAC 12College Experience: Senior | Age: 22?Height / Weight: 6-0 / 230 lbsProjected Draft Status: 2nd RoundNFL Comparison: Anthony HitchensCollege StatisticsPlayer OverviewBen Burr-Kirven was one of the best linebackers in all of college football this year. He was a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award which is given to the nations best defensive player. Burr-Kirven led the nation in total tackles and is literally present all over the field. His recruiting story is interesting. He was a 3-star prospect with a 4.0 in Stanford territory (he’s from Atherton, California which is between San Jose and San Francisco). Usually David Shaw and Co would have been all over a player like that. Shaw said he didn’t know whether or not Burr-Kirven was a safety or linebacker. Turns out that hesitation cost Stanford one of the best linebackers in the country as Washington swooped in and secured Burr-Kirven’s commitment. He is a 3-down sideline to sideline linebacker than can do just about anything you ask of him on the football field. If his production didn’t convince some that he was one of the top linebackers in this draft his performance at the combine did. He performed very well in all athletic tests and his he was 10 lbs heavier and 2 inches taller he might have one of the most filled out spider charts you have ever seen. He won PAC 12 defensive player of the year in 2018. Metrics aside Burr Kirven’s ability is supplemented by his natural feel and instincts for the position. He is ready to be a starting inside linebacker in the NFL on day one. StrengthsElite athleticism, speed, for the position with excellent instincts. Knows where the ball is going and is rarely fooled. Sometimes he can pre-diagnose a play before the ball is snapped and flies to the gap to make a tackler. Read and react ability on PA Dustin Hopkins Jersey , draws is great. Remains disciplined and trusts what he sees. Has innate ability and diagnostic skills at the position and you can see why he was so productive.Textbook tackler who is prolific. Has sideline to sideline ability. Has some ummph to his hits and works to the ball with 6 career forced fumbles.Moves really well in coverage and can get a lot of depth when he drops back. Looks good reading the QBs eyes and working his way towards the ball. Shows good awareness in passing lanes and hands.Considered the heart of the defense with excellent leadership skills and work ethic.WeaknessesUndersized for the position. Some think his size with eliminate him from the opportunity to start in the NFL. Short arms lead to some just missed opportunities .Functional strength needs to improve so he can get off blocks faster. He can get swallowed up by larger OL if his DL don’t take care of them.Let’s see his work:More Ben Burr-Kirven videosHow He Would Fit On The RedskinsThe concern over Burr-Kirven’s size is valid but is overblown. We have seen linebackers have limited success in the NFL with limited physicality, technique, or athleticism but we haven’t seen many fail because they they were 2 inches too short and 10 lbs too light. I think he is a day one starter at inside linebacker. His skills would be allowed to flourish on a team like the Redskins who have invested heavily in their defensive line. The DL picking up their assignments would allow a player like him to flow relatively freely to the ball and make a lot of the plays he did in college. With the emphasis on athleticism for both inside linebackers in the Redskins 3-4 fans ought to be comforted by his coverage and instincts as well. He does need to continue to hit the weights to develop more strength and that is the one area I would emphasize along with getting off blocks in his pro development. If he gains some weight as a result great, but I really see it as close to a non-issue. Burr-Kirven alongside Rueben Foster would make for one of the more athletic inside linebacker duo’s in the NFL. If the Redskins miss out on some of the top prospects at the position in the first round Burr-Kirven is one heck of a consolation prize.
