SAN FRANCISCO -- Marlon Byrds two-out grand slam capped a five-run eighth inning and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 10-6 on Tuesday for their third consecutive win. Nasir Adderley Chargers Jersey . A day after needing 16 innings to top the Giants in a game that ended at 12:42 a.m., the Mets squandered leads of 3-2 and 5-3 but held off the slumping World Series champs by scoring five times against the Giants bullpen. Omar Quintanilla had three hits for the Mets while Byrd and David Wright added two apiece. Wright drew a two-out walk before Byrds home run off San Francisco reliever Jake Dunning. Marco Scutaro singled twice for the Giants but was thrown out at home trying to score from first base on Pablo Sandovals double in the first. The Giants scored more than four runs for just the fourth time in 22 games but still lost and fell a season-high nine games under .500. San Francisco also has the worst record in the majors (17-34) since May 13. Scott Rice (4-5) retired one batter for the win as the Mets overcame a shaky outing by starter Dillon Gee. Gee allowed five runs and nine hits over 6 2-3 innings. He also walked five. Carlos Torres pitched the final two innings and gave up Nick Noonans pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth, one night after New Yorks bullpen tossed nine scoreless innings. San Franciscos bullpen was also stellar in the extra-inning game on Monday but couldnt follow suit this time after the Giants scored single runs in three straight innings to tie the game at 5-all. Quintanilla singled off reliever Jose Mijares (0-2) with one out in the eighth and took second on pinch-hitters Juan Lagares single. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Eric Young Jr. walked before Daniel Murphys sacrifice fly drove in Quintanilla with the tiebreaking run. After Wright walked to load the bases, Byrd hit his 14th homer of the season off Dunning to give the Mets a cushion. Both clubs were still showing the effects from Mondays game. Giants manager Bruce Bochy scrapped batting practice and told his players they didnt have to report until two hours before first pitch. Bochy kept All-Star catcher Buster Posey out of the starting lineup after Posey caught all 16 innings in the 4-3 loss. The Mets rested catcher John Buck, who also went the distance a night earlier. Bucks replacement, Anthony Recker, committed an error in the second inning that allowed Hunter Pence to score San Franciscos first run. Pence reached on an infield hit leading off and took third on Brandon Belts single before Recker threw wildly into centre trying to catch Belt on an attempted steal. The Giants went up 2-0 later in the inning but the Mets scored three times in the fourth to take the lead. Quintanillas two-out base hit drove in Josh Satin to put New York ahead. After Sandovals run-scoring groundout in the fifth tied it at 3-all, Recker homered off San Francisco starter Barry Zito in the sixth to put the Mets ahead 5-3. The Giants scored once in the sixth then tied it again on Sandovals sacrifice fly in the seventh. San Francisco got a lift from rookie Kensuke Tanaka, who was called up from the minors before the game. Tanaka singled, walked and scored and made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Andrew Brown of a potential home run in the second. NOTES: Zito remained winless in his last seven starts dating to May 30. ... David Wright has a 10-game hitting streak. ... Mets RHP Shaun Marcum will have season-ending surgery on his pitching shoulder Monday in St. Louis. Marcum experienced tingling and numbness in his right hand Saturday night against Milwaukee. Wheeler was the Giants first-round pick in 2009 when he was the sixth player taken overall. Philip Rivers Chargers Jersey .B. - Sebastien Auger made 44 saves as the Saint John Sea Dogs edged the visiting Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2-1 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Schenn scored the game-winning goal and added two assists to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday. DENVER -- For decades, a train chugged into the Rocky Mountains west from Denver, snaking through 29 tunnels and crossing the Continental Divide before delivering eager skiers to the base of Winter Park Resort at an elevation of 9,000 feet. Insurance woes doomed the service in 2009, but now -- with some help from Amtrak -- the ski train is back. The return of the Winter Park Express marks one of the more exciting developments for Colorado skiers in years, and resort officials say its already attracting attention worldwide.Steve Hurlbert, a spokesman for the Denver-owned ski resort, said people from as far away as the United Kingdom and Australia have shown interest in the train, which is set to resume seasonal weekend passenger service Jan. 7.You dont have to worry about traffic. You dont have to worry about weather. You can just sit back and enjoy the view, he said. Its just a really relaxing way to get to the mountains.Powered by two 4,250-horsepower diesel-electric engines, the train is pulled from Denvers historic and newly renovated Union Station about 60 miles and 3,700 vertical feet into Colorados snow-swept mountains. It drops passengers off about 100 yards from the lifts after passing through the 6.2-mile Moffat Tunnel, which was finished in 1928 and is credited with opening Denver up to western commerce. Also featured are Amtraks Superliner double-decker cars, which are designed for longer distances and are roomier than normal passenger train cars. The train can carry more than 500 passengers and can be resized depending on demand. But downsizing might not be an issue.Hurlbert said tickets for two test runs of the service in March 2015 sold out in about 14 hours. We knew all along that there was a huge demand to bring this train back, and that really illustrated to Amtrak that the demand is substantial, he said.So far, Amtrak has sold more tickets than expected for the train, fueled in part by frustrated skiers and snowboarders who dread making the painfully slow trip to the slopes on traffic-choked Interstate 70.The train, which shares tracks with Amtraks California Zephyr that runs between Chicago and San Francisco, has been a draw since it started running in 1940, the same year the ski resort openedd. Derwin James Youth Jersey. After the service was discontinued for a few years during World War II, it ran almost every ski season from 1947 until 2009, when billionaire investor and then owner Philip Anschutz shut it down.It just became cost prohibitive to run because some insurance rates went up, Hurlbert said. Our sense was that it would never come back.Marc Magliari, a spokesman for Amtrak, said Denver-based employees proposed resurrecting the ski train a couple of years ago, and a conversation began with Winter Park Resort and Union Pacific, which owns the tracks. It turns out, the employee-borne idea had some legs to it, Magliari said. We have the available equipment. We have a willing host in Union Pacific and we have a great partner in Winter Park.A major piece of the puzzle was put in place when funding came through for a $3.5 million heated platform that is designed to accommodate athletes at the National Sports Center for the Disabled, which is based at the resort. Contributors included the resort, the city of Denver, the town of Winter Park, the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Colorado Rail Passengers Association. But perhaps a more serendipitous development for the ski train was the recent completion of a passenger rail line between Denver International Airport and Union Station. This is the only service of its kind in the United States, Hurlbert said. This is the only place you can go from the airport to the mountain by rail. Its a very European model. ... Thats what really makes this exciting. Its so much bigger in scope. It really kind of opens of the state to a lot of international travelers.---If You Go...WINTER PARK EXPRESS: Amtrak train from Denver to Winter Park, Colorado.
