China Shoes Black Friday .Having been slower than teammate Kimi Raikkonen in final practice and during the first two parts of qualifying, Vettel moved ahead of Raikkonen in Q3 to qualify fifth for Sundays Malaysian Grand Prix, albeit 0.7s down on Lewis Hamiltons pole time and behind both Red Bulls. Vettel insists Ferrari are not in as bad a position as some make out.Well I think if you look at the gap to Mercedes its been fairly stable, the German said. Some races we are a bit closer, some races a bit further away, but all in all I think its fair that Saturday is fairly big, Sunday it shrinks a down a little bit but its still there. At the beginning of the year we were clearly the second best team. Now towards the end of the year, here and there in terms of pace sometimes we slip behind, its correct, so I think its very close. Its not fair to say we are massively behind.Ferrari took three victories in 2015 but has failed to repeat a winning performance so far this season. The Italian outfit has often found itself on the receiving end of criticism for not being able to take advantage of race-winning opportunities, particularly in Australia, Spain and Canada.Ferraris strategy at the Singapore Grand Prix was also questioned, after Raikkonen narrowly missed out on a podium finish following a decision to cover Hamiltons final pit stop, which gave the reigning world champion track position and ultimately third place. Ferrari fell behind Red Bull in the championship standings ahead of the summer break but Vettel denies his team has lost focus.I think we came into the season with high expectations, and the expectations came from ourselves, we had to learn that we are not achieving what we want, what we set out to achieve but equally I think everyone is fired up to give one hundred per cent.Arguably we had a lot of races this year that didnt go according to plan for many reasons but as a team I think we never lost focus. Even if there were a lot of things, that some people call bad luck or whatever, I think we stuck to our way and our path and thats the right thing to do.When asked about Ferraris chances for Sundays race at Sepang, the quadruple world champion said he is confident of taking the fight to Red Bull and challenging for the podium.I think our main focus today was to try and be in front of the Red Bulls, which we didnt manage to do but we still have tomorrow. The target is to be ahead with both of us. Mercedes seems to be a little bit further down the road but you never know what happens tomorrow, if we have a chance to beat one or both of them tomorrow then we go for that as well.
