Theyll face the most favorable schedule theyll see all year, three home games against an inexperienced Braves rotation that traded away two of their more experienced options (Jhoulys Chacin and Bud Norris), followed by four at Colorados Coors Field.Yes, theres a Julio Teheran game in there (July 6) and another against the up-and-coming Jon Gray (July 8), but the latter is a Coors game which stacks things in the hitters favor, and the other five games easily drive upsides. Heck, this is a solid enough schedule that, despite the six right-handed starters, even Franco warrants a dice roll.The sneaky Phillies pick: Left-handed hitting Cody Asche, a .289/.333/.482 hitter in 26 June games and .274/.316/.452 hitter against righties this season who has started seven in a row against right-handed starters.Forget about their right-handed leaning -- 72 percent of their total plate appearances have been accrued by righties, fifth-most in the majors -- as the Blue Jays hitting advantages this week are all about volume (seven games), the ballpark advantage (Rogers Centre is a homer-friendly venue) and the fact that theyre facing a lot of extreme fly-ball starters. Three of them -- Chris Young, Ian Kennedy and Justin Verlander -- rank in the top eight in baseball in terms of highest fly-ball rate among pitchers with at least five starts, and two others -- Daniel Norris and Mike Pelfrey -- have extremely high homers-per-nine innings ratios. In particular, Michael Saunders, a .286/.359/.519 hitter against righties this season, and Devon Travis, a .306/.364/.515 career hitter against righties, stand out as value plays.Besides, the Blue Jays as a team actually have a higher wOBA against right-handed (.339) than left-handed (.333) pitchers this season.Though theyre fairly obvious plays from a whole-team perspective, Cubs hitters have great overall matchups in Week 14 thanks to their facing four left-handed starters, a Reds pitching staff that served up 27 runs to this team in a three-game series June 27-29, a Braves team thatll be using a spot starter and a Pirates team that had baseballs worst starters ERA in the month of June (6.06).Its two of their younger players who stand out as values: Javier Baez has started nine consecutive games against a left-hander, and has .352/.417/.593 rates against lefties this season; and Willson Contreras, who has starts in eight consecutive games (four in left field, three at catcher and one at first base) and is an excellent No. 2 catcher option.
