SEATTLE -- Chris Young and Robinson Cano arrived in Seattle with fanfare at opposite ends of the spectrum. Pedro Rodriguez Jersey . Seattle couldnt celebrate the arrival of Cano enough. Young was a last-second addition plucked at the end of spring training. Each has proven invaluable in keeping Seattle at .500 at the 50-game mark of the season. Young pitched shutout ball until Albert Pujols homered in the seventh inning, Cano had three hits and two RBIs to raise his average to .332, and the Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-1 on Monday. While the production from Cano was expected after he signed a $240 million contract to join the Mariners, what Young has contributed is a surprise, especially with Seattle down two expected starters in the rotation. "I was trying to find the adjectives to describe this guy today, but what a godsend hes been for this rotation," Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said. "Hes been tremendous. In and out, up and down, he never wavers and knows what he wants to do." Young (4-2) kept the Angels without a hit until Kole Calhouns single with one out in the sixth inning. An inning later, Pujols hit his 506th career home run, pulling within three of Gary Sheffield for 24th on baseballs all-time homer list. Young lasted only two more batters after Pujols homer, getting pulled after issuing a walk to Raul Ibanez. He struck out five and walked three. But Youngs strong pitching at Safeco Field continued. In four starts at home this season, Young is 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA. It was a solid rebound for Young, who got knocked around in losing his previous two starts. He gave up 10 hits and five runs in losing to Minnesota and allowed four runs and seven hits in a loss to Texas last week. In Youngs last seven starts for Seattle, the Mariners are 5-2. Its an impressive turnaround considering Young spent all of last season out of the majors after shoulder surgery. "When youre out there competing, you expect to win. I wouldnt take the ball if I didnt expect to go out and compete and win," Young said. "To say its surprising, after all the hard work and time rehabbing I put in I would say no." After McClendon lamented Seattles production following losses over the weekend to Houston, the Mariners responded with five runs in the first two innings off Tyler Skaggs (4-2). Seattle scored three unearned runs with two outs in the second. The top three hitters in Seattles order did the damage against Skaggs. James Jones scored twice, and Michael Saunders tripled, singled and scored two runs. Cano singled in each of his first three at-bats a day after his streak of reaching base ended at 31 games. "Thats just part of the game sometimes where you take advantage of a pitch over the plate," Cano said. "Sometimes there are games where they throw you that same pitch and you foul it off. ... We took advantage and thats what we want. Those are the little things you want to do." Skaggs wasnt helped by his defence in the second inning when shortstop Erick Aybar couldnt handle Jones one-hopper with two outs. The miscue allowed Dustin Ackley to score and opened the door for two more runs on Saunders triple and Canos infield single. Despite the early trouble, Skaggs threw seven innings and struck out eight. "Tyler understood keeping us in the game," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He made pitches, got on a great streak and pitched seven innings. But the damage was done early." NOTES: Angels dropped to 1-5 vs. Seattle this season. ... Seattle LHP James Paxton (back) said he was not sure when his next throwing session would be after making his first rehab start at Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. ... Seattle RHP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) is scheduled to make his first rehab start on Wednesday at Tacoma. http://www.soccerspainfansshop.com/Juan-Mata-UEFA-European-Spain-Jersey/ . - The infectious smile was missing from Nam Nguyen last week. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rougned Odor and the Texas Rangers took full advantage of an unprecedented bad night by Baltimore shortstop J.J. Hardy to avoid a three-game sweep after blowing a big early lead. Odour had a leadoff single in the seventh and scored the tiebreaking run with the help of two errors by Hardy as the Rangers went on to beat the Orioles 8-6 on Thursday night. "He usually comes up with that stuff. He didnt come up with it tonight, and it opened the inning us," Rangers manager Ron Washington said of the Hardy miscues. "Hes a class infielder, and it just goes to show you it can happen to anyone." The Rangers blew an early 5-0 lead, but their three-run seventh started when speedy No. 9 batter Odor had an infield single off reliever Brian Matusz (2-2) and moved up after Hardy, who had a throwing error after fielding the ball in the hole. "I had to make a quick throw on (Odour) and I just threw it a little too low," Hardy said. "The next one, I cant explain it. I just missed it." Odour came home when Hardy misplayed a grounder hit by Elvis Andrus to make it 6-5. Alex Rios and Chris Jimenez then added consecutive RBI singles off Preston Guilmet, the fifth Baltimore pitcher. "Nobody in this clubhouse thinks twice about it," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "Its an honour to watch him play every night and Im blessed to have had him pass my way, so we dont give that two thoughts." Hardy, an All-Star for the second time last season, also had a throwing error in the fourth for the first three-error game in his career. In 1,152 games at shortstop since 2005 before Thursday, he had only one multi-error game -- seven years ago when he had two in a game for Milwaukee. Adam Jones had three RBIs for the Orioles, including his two-run double in the fifth and a homer leading off the eighth. Nick Markakis also homered for Baltimore, a two-run shot in the third. Robbie Ross (2-4) struuck out two in two scoreless innings before Tanner Scheppers, another reliever who started this season in the Texas starting rotation, gave up the homer to Jones. http://www.soccerspainfansshop.com/Nacho-Fernandez-UEFA-European-Spain-Jersey/. . Joakim Soria worked a perfect ninth for his 12th save in 13 chances. Scheppers, the opening day starter who went 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA in four starts before going on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation, was recalled from an injury rehab assignment earlier Thursday. Baltimore starter Chris Tillman faced only 11 batters, and was gone without recording an out in the second inning. Nine of those batters reached, including all five in the second. Tillman pitched in place of Miguel Gonzalez, the right-hander who was scratched a day before his scheduled start because of soreness in his side. Mitch Moreland, the Rangers No. 3 batter, had a slicing two-run single to left in the first. Leonys Martin led off the Texas second with a single before Michael Choices two-run homer to left. After Odor and Shin-Soo Choo walked, Andrus had an RBI single that made it 5-0 and chased Tillman. Jones doubled off Texas starter Colby Lewis, then scored on a single by Chris Davis that tied it 5-all. But Lewis wasnt blaming centre fielder Martin, who had the ball hit by Jones come out of his glove while falling to the ground on what would have been the third out. "Its one of those outings where Im excited we won," Lewis said. "I dont think it should have been in that situation. I put it on myself. Im not really worried about that." NOTES: Texas had lost seven in a row against Baltimore. ... The Orioles finished 5-5 on a 10-game road trip. They play their next 10 games, and 20 of 26, at home. ... Texas picked right-hander Luis Ortiz from Sanger High School in California with the 30th overall pick in the draft. That was the Rangers compensation pick for the Orioles signing Nelson Cruz, who was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts in the series finale. Michael Atherton expects Nick Compton to be dropped for the forthcoming series with Pakistan after another failure with the bat for the Middlesex right-hander. Bruno Alves Jersey . Compton was nicked out for 1 in Englands first innings and could only muster 19 in Englands second innings, before edging Shaminda Eranga to Dinesh Chandimal behind the stumps.Despite rebuilding his international career during the winter tour to South Africa, Compton has averaged 28.70 in 30 innings for England, while his highest score for Middlesex this season has been just 44. Its a bit of déjà vu in the dismissal, similar to most in the series - pushing forward, a little late, and on the heels of his feet, Atherton told Sky Sports. A dismayed Compton on the Lords balcony He just hasnt got going this season, he hasnt got a fifty in any form of cricket this year. He had his opportunity still, when many judges thought he wouldnt get picked for this series.Hes had three games, but not taken that opportunity, and Im afraid I think that will be it for Nick Compton. Somebody else will be given a go against Pakistan. Its a cruel game at times, but you have to perform, otherwise someone else will come in and perform in place of you. That is the brutal truth of sport. His career average of 28.70, and particularly his average of 12.75, at the age he is, 32, its time for other players like Scott Borthwick, who will be pushing for a place now.The series victory in South Africa bought him time, but it only buys you so much time, and at the end of the day you have to perform. OTTAWA -- Johan Franzen has no explanation for his success in Ottawa, but cant deny he definitely enjoys playing in the nations capital.Gary Cahill Jersey . The Detroit Red Wings winger was at his best once again scoring three goals in a 6-1 win over the Ottawa Senators Thursday night. Franzen, who returned to the Red Wings lineup Wednesday after playing just one of the past 24 games due to a concussion, has previously enjoyed success against the Senators. In February 2011, Franzen scored five goals against the Senators. "I like playing here," said Franzen. "We have Erik Karlsson on the other side and we grew up in the same little town so its always fun to play him. Its something special every time. Im just happy to keep him from the scoreboard. Its always fun to play him." Detroit coach Mike Babcock is pleased to see Franzen having success. "Hes an important player for us," said Babcock. "He has the ability, he has the touch. Lots of guys play real hard and cant score (Franzen) can score." It appears he also has the ability to get under his opponents skin. Ottawas Chris Neil went after Franzen late in the game and while nothing came of it Franzen was less than impressed. "He tried to hit me and he couldnt move me so I think he got a little upset," said Franzen. "I have no clue. He usually shows up when the game is over and tries to be the hero. He puts his cape on and goes and flies out there. I dont know." Riley Sheahan, Tomas Jurco and Tomas Tatar also scored for Detroit. Jonas Gustavsson stopped 37 shots. With the win the Red Wings (28-20-12) have a five-point lead over the Senators (26-23-11) for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference standings. "Coming back from the break and you start 2-0 its way better than the opposite way," said Babcock. "We know were in a battle for our playoff life. We understand that so getting off to a good start is imperative." The Senators had little explanation for their performance. "Its an extremely disappointing loss," said Ottawa captain Jason Spezza. "We knew that it was a very important game for us and to lose it by that score is obviously not what we were looking for." Bobby Ryan scored the lone goal for the Senators, who were playing their first game since the Olympic break. Robin Lehner allowed six goals on 15 shots before Andrew Hammond made his NHL debut, stopping all nine shots he faced. Things fell apart for the Senators in a nine-minute span in the first period. Ryan had a goal called back after it was ruled that he kicked it in and then the Senators leading goal scorer missed two great chances on the power play. Things began to unravel after the Red Wings scored on consecutive shots. Ottawas Cody Ceci gave the puck up deep in the Senators end as he made a no-look behind-the-back pass that landed right on the stick of Sheahan who ripped a shot past Lehner. Just 29 seconds later Franzen scored his first as he was left all alone to give Detroit a 2-0 lead. Franzen then made it 3-0 with a power-play goal as once again he was left alone, this time on the opposite side of the ice. Following the game Lehner could not hide his disappointment. "They got a few goals pretty fast and then it snowballed," said Lehner. "I think weve all got to do better in our zone and Ive got to do better. It was one of the most toughest games Ive played personally, but its over now. Theres not much to say." Detroit made it 4-0 on a delayed penalty call with two minutes remaining in the period. Niklas Kronwall, who finished with three assists, had a shot from just inside the blue-line deflected and ended up on Jurcos stick, who roofed it over Lehner. The 18,931 on hand at Canadian Tire Centre were so disappointed they booed the home team off the ice. Senators coach Paul MacLean had few words to explain his teams performance. "We played a lot better than the score maybe indicated, but the score is what it is and you cant change that," said MacLean. When asked who was the best player MacLean couldnt help but say "Johan Franzen I think. I think were all tied for the worst." Franzen completed his hat trick early in the second period. Ryan finally got the Senators on board at the four-minute mark of the second, but any celebration was short-lived as Detroit made it 6-1 as Tatar beat Lehner from in close. That marked the end of Lehners appearance, opening the door for Hammond to make his first NHL appearance. Craig Anderson was unavailable due to the birth of his second child. Despite the surprise appearance Hammond held his own and made a number of big saves. "Not letting anything in was a good start," said Hammond. "Any kid from Canada growing up playing hockey its their dream to play in the NHL and its pretty special for me to be one of those guys thats lucky enough now to say Ive played in the NHL. Its very special." This was the fourth and final meeting between the teams as they split the season series. Notes: D Patrick Wiercioch, D Joe Corvo and LW Matt Kassian were a healthy scratch for the Senatorsa RW Patrick Eaves, RW Todd Bertuzzi and RW Daniel Cleary were a healthy scratch for the Red Wingsa A number of Canadian Olympians were recognized prior to the game including Detroit head coach Mike Babcock and General Manager Ken Holland. Thursdays game marked Daniel Alfredssons second appearance at Canadian Tire Centre since signing with the Red Wings last summer. Eric Dier Jersey . -- Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman is undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone above his left eye but has no other serious injuries after being hit in the face by a line drive in a spring training game. Wayne Rooney Jersey . The Henry Burris-led squad finished second in the East Division before advancing to the Grey Cup where they ultimately fell to the home field advantage wielding Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings combined for 32 shots on goal, yet both won Monday night. Notes on Crosby, Fleury, Diaz, Gaborik, Schultz and more. FLEURY SHUTS OUT RANGERS, AGAIN Sidney Crosbys first goal of the postseason was the game-winner and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 35 New York Rangers shots he faced, giving the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-0 win in Game Three and a 2-1 lead in the series. Crosby played 16:54, a threshold that he surpassed in 86 of 88 previous games this season and only had one shot on goal, but it found the back of the net, going five-hole on Henrik Lundqvist after being sent in on a partial breakaway by a Robert Bortuzzo pass. Crosbys goal gives him seven points (1 G, 6 A) in nine playoff games, which is below his standard, but getting off the goose-egg ought to alleviate some pressure. The Penguins other goal was a gift for Jussi Jokinen, who picked up an errant Rangers pass for a breakaway as he stepped out of the penalty box. Jokinen now has seven points (4 G, 3 A) in the playoffs and, with four shots on goal, was the only Penguin with more than two shots on goal in the game. Back-to-back shutouts sure changes the view on the playoff performance of Fleury, who had allowed at least three goals in six of his first seven games in the playoffs, but hes stopped all 57 shots that the Rangers have sent his way in the last two nights. His save percentage is up to .919 for this postseason. While the Rangers held a possession advantage by games end, they gained that advantage on their punchless power play (now 0-for-30 in the past eight games) and once the Penguins had built their 2-0 lead. Before that point, the Penguins had 24 5-on-5 shot attempts for and 23 against (51.1%). After that, the Rangers held a 24-9 (72.7%) edge, but those are empty possession calories, a nature of the way the game is played by teams holding a multi-goal lead. The player sending the most shots toward the Pittsburgh net for the Rangers was D Raphael Diaz, who had six shots on goal and nine shot attempts in his first game of the postseason. Next was RW Rick Nash, who had eight shot attempts, but is still looking for his first playoff goal this year. Nash has two goals in 25 career playoff games. The schedule has been ridiculous for the Rangers, who have played five games in seven days, but tthey had better hope that getting back on a more normal schedule will be enough for them to solve a suddenly-hot Marc-Andre Fleury.Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain England Jersey. KINGS HOLD ON TO BEAT DUCKS Jonathan Quick stopped 36 of 37 shots while Marian Gaborik and Alec Martinez scored first-period goals, then the Los Angeles Kings held on (adding an empty-netter by Dwight King) to beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1, taking a 2-0 series lead. Gaborik scored his playoff-leading sixth goal just 34 seconds into the game, after scoring the last two goals of Game One, and the Kings were off and running. Martinez, who finished the year strong (7 G, 8 A in 22 GP after the Olympics) now has two goals and five points in nine playoff games. Perhaps the most remarkable part of the night for Los Angeles was that D Jeff Schultz, playing with Robyn Regehr and Willie Mitchell injured, logged 19:58 of ice time, ranking fourth on the Kings blueline behind Drew Doughty, Jake Muzzin and Slava Voynov. That might not seem like such a big deal -- someone had to play those minutes -- but Schultz didnt play a game in the NHL this season. He had 13 points (2 G, 11 A) and was plus-10 in 67 AHL games. Schultz was minus-10 in Corsi for Game Two but that ice time played into that deficit. Anaheims goal came on the power play from LW Patrick Maroon, their third-leading playoff scorer (2 G, 4 A, 8 GP), behind Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. The Ducks were dominating the possession game, but couldnt solve Quick and now head to Staples Center down two games in the series. With the ice tilted so heavily in Anaheims favour, the defence pairing of Ben Lovejoy and Cam Fowler was on for better than 80% of the 5-on-5 shot attempts. Anaheim was seven seconds away from winning Game One and carried the play in Game Two, yet still lost, so while they are facing a daunting task to come back, they have been able to handle the puck possession game against a Kings team that was the leagues best in that respect during the regular season. It may not do them much good, but its more encouraging than getting beaten from pillar-to-post in the first couple games. Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork. Fraser Forster Jersey .com) - Ben Bishop turned aside 34 shots to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 3-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Cedric Paquette, Brett Connolly and Valtteri Filppula each lit the lamp for the Lightning, who have won five of their last six games. Another solid game out of him, Lightning forward Ryan Callahan said of Bishop. I thought we played a really good game. Ryan Johansen had the only marker for the Blue Jackets, who have lost three of their last four. Curtis McElhinney allowed all three goals on 34 shots in defeat. We had our chances, Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray said. I thought that we had a good effort. Just a few shifts in third there where we got hemmed in our own end and it cost us. The Lightning took a 1-0 lead with just 23.5 seconds to play in the first period after Jason Garrison sent a pass from the left point to the low left side where Brenden Morrow one-touched the pass to the front and Connolly finished it off. After a scoreless second period, Tampa took a 2-0 lead halfway through the third as Paquette was able to smack in the puck as Columbus was trying to clear it out of the crease. Less than two minutes later, the Lightning made it a 3-0 game when Filppula rang a wrister in from the right wing off the post and in for his 10th of the season. Meeks has agreed to a $19.5 million, three-year deal with Detroit, a person familiar with the situation said Tuesday night. The person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because free agents cant sign contracts until the leagues moratorium ends July 10, also said Cartier Martin had agreed to a one-year contract with the rebuilding franchise. The 6-foot-4 Meeks averaged a career-high 15.7 points and scored a team-high 1,209 points last season for the Los Angeles Lakers. The shooting guard has averaged 9.7 points over his five-year career. Milwaukee drafted Meeks in the second round in 2009 and traded him during his rookie season to Philadelphia. The Lakers signed him as a free agent in 2012 and exercised a team option last year to keep him on the roster for a second season. Martin, a 6-7 small forward, has averagged 5. The Pistons, who havent earned a spot in the playoffs since 2009, are trying to reshape their roster to make the most of 20-year-old centre Andre Drummond. They probably will be relegated to keeping forward Josh Smith, who signed a $54 million, four-year deal last summer, and point guard Brandon Jennings, entering the second year of his $24 million, three-year contract. Of course, the reality is that the Raiders 2014 season was a lost cause long before their visit to Kansas City last weekend. But when they got within just four points in the third quarter - after having won two of three games coming in - there was at least some reason for middling optimism. Less than five minutes later, though, those positive thoughts were a distant memory. Three Chiefs touchdowns in a stretch of 4 minutes, 42 seconds - including one after a fumbled snap by quarterback Derek Carr -- started the death spiral toward an eventual 31-13 loss, which plunged the Raiders to 2-12 on the season as they head into a Week 16 home game with the Buffalo Bills. Oakland had 10 penalties in the defeat, and its 103 infractions for the season are eighth in the league. You cant do those kind of things in any football game, Raiders interim coach Tony Sparano said. But you certainly cant do those things when youre on the road and in an environment like that, and kind of feed their ego with false starts and with penalties and then turn it into a game that you have to throw the football as much as we had to throw the ball with that kind of pass rush. Carr completed less than half of his 56 passes against Kansas City, while totaling 222 yards and connecting for a touchdown alongside four sacks. Hes been slightly better at home in his rookie season, including 10 TDs and just three interceptions in his last five games at the O.co Coliseum. The Bills havent won a game in Oakland since 1966 and havent beaten the Raiders franchise on the road since a victory in Los Angeles in 1991. That theme continues for Buffalo overall, as it strives to end a postseason drought - the longest in the league -- that stretches back 15 years to 1999. A 21-13 win over visiting Green Bay last week ensured that the Bills would finish at .500 for the first time since they went 9-7 in 2004. Jumping from respectability to the playoffs, however, will take a little more. Buffalo is last among the nine AFC teams whove registered eight or more wins - thanks to a 4-6 in-conference record and losses to fellow 8-6 team Kansas City and 9-6 San Diego. A berth would not only require a win in Oakland, but a follow-up victory at New England, where it is 0 for its last 13 efforts. The defeat of the Packers saw Buffalo snuff the offensive of the most-prolific scoring team in the league and prompt a career-high 25 incompletions, a career-worst 34.3 passer rating and two interceptions from quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Bills havent allowed a passing TD in six of its last seven games and its pass defense - which yielded 210.1 yards per week - is No. 5 in the league. Timothy Chandler Jersey. . The Green Bay win came a week after a loss to Denver in which Buffalo gave Peyton Manning a forgettable stat line that included 14 completions, two interceptions, 173 yards and no touchdowns. We have to obviously continue to play like that but once we do that, now the mark is set, cornerback Corey Graham said. Now you got to expect that every week from everybody and thats what we got to do. Weve got to make sure were locked in and ready to go every week. The offense could certainly use the same swagger. The Bills got four field goals, a safety and a punt return touchdown against the Packers, which didnt help the 31st-best ratio of touchdowns (20) to red- zone possessions (49). Quarterback Kyle Orton completed 14-of-27 passes for 158 yards and an interception, alongside three sacks. No wide receiver or tight end caught more than two passes. Weve got to do a better job, Buffalo coach Doug Marrone said. Weve got to protect better, got to run routes better, weve got to get a better rhythm. A boost could arrive in the form of running back C.J. Spiller, who broke his collarbone in Week 7 and hasnt played since. Hes second among all running backs since 2010 with a 5.0-yard average per carry, and is listed as probable against the Raiders. Hes a guy whos made plays in the past, Marrone said. Any time you can bring back someone whos a potential playmaker obviously helps. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Crash the Carr The Bills enter the game with 49 sacks and theyll face an opponent in the Raiders whos not exactly erected fortress-like walls around Carr all year, and allowed four sacks in last weeks loss to Kansas City. Thus, itll be incumbent upon Oaklands Latavius Murray, who had 59 yards against the Chiefs, to be effective enough to draw containment attention from Buffalo ends Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes. Sling it to Sammy A common denominator in Buffalos six losses this season has been the limited production of Sammy Watkins, whos scored just one TD and exceeded 100 yards in one game as well. Raiders cornerback Tarell Brown has surrendered just one TD among the 42 passes completed in his direction in 2014, and help from veteran safety Charles Woodson should keep the game from becoming a Watkins showcase. OVERALL ANALYSIS OK, Coach Marrone, its your move. The Bills have gone from long-term laughingstock to having the dreaded trap game label hung on them. Its incumbent on the second-year boss to make sure his team handles the cross- country trip to meet an inferior foe, on the Sunday prior to a visit to the perennial AFC East powerhouse that could be the final obstacle to a January return. Score one for preparation. WASHINGTON -- General manager George McPhee and coach Adam Oates lost their jobs with the Washington Capitals on Saturday, about two weeks after the team failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Ruben Yanez Jersey . "We were left with the overall impression that the team wasnt trending toward being able to compete for a Stanley Cup," Capitals owner Ted Leonsis said in a news conference at the clubs arena. "And that was just a clear signal and why it was time to make those changes." McPhees contract was up and the team announced it will not give him a new one after his 17 years as the GM, which included drafting Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom in the first round. Oates was fired with one season left on his three-year deal. A former star player for the Capitals, he was in his first job as an NHL head coach. Washington finished this season with the ninth-most points in the Eastern Conference, one spot out of a playoff berth. "You have to do something to pivot the team to be an ongoing strong team," Leonsis said. "And I just felt that new leadership at this time was needed, and lets start it with a clean slate." Asked whether any player would be untouchable as part of upcoming changes -- a chance, perhaps, for Leonsis to mention captain and top scorer Ovechkin -- the owner replied: "Im not the general manager. So If the general manager comes with something, we would listen to the general manager." Ovechkin has won three league MVP awards and again led the NHL in scoring this season with 51 goals, but the Capitals havent made it past the second round of the playoffs during the Russian wings career. Dick Patrick, the president of the Capitals, said the team already has drawn up a list of potential GM candidates. "Typically, youd like to have a general manager in place and have him choose a coach," Patrick said. The Capitals reached the Stanley Cup finals in 1998, McPhees first year on the job, and were swept by the Detroit Red Wings. Later, McPhee oversaw a "rebuild" ordered by Leonsis, including jettisoning top players with big contracts such as Jaromir Jagr. "Lets not forget that rebuilding process was dramatic. And I watched a great executive go through really, really hard times and really rebuild that team quickly. We just didnt get there," Leonsis said. "At some point, you just have to try something different." While McPhee eventually built a young roster filled with offensive stars, he never placed as much emphasis on constructing a rugged, defensive-minded blue line crop. He hired a succession of coaches with zero previous NHL experience running a team, including Glen Hanlon, Bruce Boudreau, Dale Hunter and Oates. Led by Ovechkin, the Capitals produced terrific regular-season results for a half-dozen seasons, without similar success in the post-season. Four years ago, Washington won the Presidents Trophy for having the most points during the season, then lost in the first round of the playoffs to the eighth-seeded Montreal Canadiens. Leonsis called McPhee, who built seven division-winning teams, "a talented man, a great friend," but that it was time for "a fresh set of eyes." The Capitals went 65-48-17 under Oates in his two seasons. In a brief statement released via the team, Oates called it "a tremendous honour to coach the Capitals these past two seasons" and said he was "grateful for the opportunity." In his first season in charge, which was shortened because of a labour dispute, Washington reached the playoffs with a late surge before losing in the first round to the New York Rangers in seven games. "We were a continuously improving playoff team until we werent. And the last two seasons showed us that we need to improve. And thats what it came down to," Leonsis said. "Dick and I said, We have to make that gut check. Do we have to change? And where do you start? And you start with the coach and the general manager." Lucas Vazquez Jersey . "Weve given ourselves now a tougher task," said Carlyle after the Friday practice, the Toronto head coach notably chipper and upbeat throughout. "But the bottom line is we just have to win our share of games [and] not worry about what anybody else is doing. Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid Jersey . Arsenal had already scored its goals in the third round fixture when the fierce rivalry turned ugly in the final ten minutes as Walcott was being carried off on a stretcher. The Dallas Stars signed goaltender Jussi Rynnas to a two-year contract on Monday. Rynnas had a record of 28-5-7 in 40 regular season games with Karpat of the Finnish Elite League (Liiga) last season. Rynnas led all Liiga goaltenders with a 1.51 goals against average and a .939 save percentage, while he finished second in the league with nine shutouts and third with 28 wins. He also appeared in three postseason games with Karpat, posting an 0-3-0 record with a 2.57 GAA and an .881 SV% as his club went on to win the 2014 Liiga championship. San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork. Custom Seattle Sounders Jersey .com) - Tommy Wingels finished with four points to lead the San Jose Sharks in a thrilling 6-4 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday. Wingels had a goal and three assists and Logan Couture scored twice for the Sharks, who halted a four-game skid Hopefully, we can use tonight to turn the season around, Wingels said. We were able to find ways to score. Joe Pavelski, Tomas Hertl and Matt Nieto also lit the lamp and Antti Niemi stopped 30-of-34 shots in the win. Corey Perry posted two goals and an assist, Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and two assists and Matt Beleskey also scored for the Ducks, who have dropped their last two games on the heels of a three-game win streak. We tried to do things right, but we had some bad breaks, Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau said. Then we got mad and showed how we can play. Frederik Andersen allowed five goals on 19 shots and Jason LaBarbera turned aside 15 pucks in defeat. The Sharks struck first as Coutures wrist shot off a broken play made it a 1-0 game midway through the first period. Anaheim responded just under two minutes later as Beleskey tipped in Hampus Lindholms point blast for a tied game. Couture, however, finished off a short-handed breakaway with a low shot through the pads of Andersen to give San Jose the lead back at 13:35. After Jakob Silfverberg went off for high-sticking, Joe Thornton slipped a pass through the crease to Pavelski, who made it a 3-1 game with a quick shot at the side of the net with 14 seconds left in the opening stanza. San Jose continued its frantic scoring with two more goals early in the second. Wingels got a stick on Patrick Marleaus shot from the point 2:46 into the frame and Hertls backhander gave the Sharks a four-goal cushion at 6:09. Perry netted two straight goals to get the Ducks within striking distance. He tipped Getzlafs shot from the left point into the net with 1:08 to play in the second and then deflected Getzlafs backhander into the top of the net 29 seconds into the third for a 5-3 game. Getzlaf took a turnover in the slot and whipped a backhander over the shoulder of Niemi to make it a one-goal game 4:20 into the third. Nieto, however, sealed the win on a empty-net, power-play goal with 50 seconds remaining. Abreu, who leads the majors in homers and RBIs, struck out with two runners on base to end the eighth. Earlier, the Cuban first baseman made the play of the day. Abreu fielded Lonnie Chisenhalls grounder in the sixth and, unable to get the ball out of his mitt, flipped the glove about 10 feet to pitcher Scott Carroll covering the bag for the out. Masterson (1-1) held the ALs highest-scoring offence in check, allowing four hits and striking out six in his seventh start of the season. The right-hander won for the first time since last Aug. 21. Cody Allen struck out Abreu in the eighth. John Axford pitched the ninth for his ninth save, sending Chicago to its fourth straight loss. Cleveland centre fielder Michael Bourn left in the fourth because of tightness in his left hamstring. He strained the same hamstring in spring training and began the season on the disabled list. Indians designated hitter Jason Giambi left the game in the sixth with a cramp in his right calf. Errors by third baseman Marcus Semien and catcher Tyler Flowers made both of Clevelands runs unearned. The Indians also made two errors. Nick Swisher had a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the Indians, who have won two in a row after breaking a six-game losing streak. Carroll (1-1) didnt allow an earned ruun in six innings in his second major league start. Brad Evans Seattle Sounders Jersey. Semiens dropped popup handed the Indians a run in the second. Semien drifted under a ball near the mound hit by David Murphy with two outs, but it fell out of his glove and Chisenhall scored from third. Chisenhall started the inning with a double. Cleveland got another gift in the fifth. Flowers fielded Jose Ramirezs bunt, but threw wildly to first. Ramirez was credited with a hit and took second on the error. Mike Aviles sacrifice moved Ramirez to third and Swishers fly ball made it 2-0. Chisenhalls throwing error led to a Chicago threat in the fifth. A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out, but Swisher made a diving grab of Semiens line drive and doubled Flowers off first. Masterson also pitched around shortstop Asdrubal Cabreras fielding error in the third. Alexei Ramirez, the leading hitter in the AL, was hitless in four at-bats. DURBAN, South Africa -- Two players carded a 59 in the second round of the rain-affected Nelson Mandela Championship on Friday, although their scores wont count as a European Tour record because the field was allowed preferred lies on the soaked layout. Aron Johannsson USA Jersey . Jorge Campillo of Spain and Colin Nel of South Africa both reached golfs magic number on South Africas east coast but their 59s came with asterisks because of the preferred lies and the fact that the Mount Edgecombe course was reduced by one stroke to a par 70. No one has ever carded a bona fide 59 on the European Tour. Campillos blistering round with two eagles and seven birdies gave him a share of the clubhouse lead on 11-under 129 with Englands Matthew Baldwin (62). Nel had an eagle and nine birdies to move up to a share of 27th, with several players set to complete their round on Saturday. "My caddie walked the course during the practice round and said we could shoot 59 out here," Campillo said. "Its a great day. I was nervous on the finish, but I managed to finish strong. Im really happy because no matter what you still have to make the putts to shoot 59." The 59s by Campillo and Nel were also recorded within seconds of each other as Campillo finished on the ninth and Nel straight after on the 18th. Nel had opened with a 7-over 77. "I was a bit depressed after my first round," Nel said, "so on the first tee I said to my playing partners, Wheres the first tee and whats the course record? I needed to go deep to make the cut. The putter just got hot. I had 22 putts, 11 (on) each nine, and you dream of that." The event was reduced to 54 holes earlier Friday after long weather delays. It was already brought forward a day so the last round would not to fall on Sunday, the day of Mandelas funeral. And before the start, heavy rain had waterlogged the fifth fairway, forcing organizers at the co-sanctioned European and Sunshine Tour event to shorten that hole to a par 3. First-round leader Daniel Brooks moved to 12 under before play was ended by bad light, and is among those who will complete his second round on Saturday. Having led through two days as one of the players to complete his first round on Wednesday, Brooks pushed ahead again with a birdie on No. 1, his 10th. Behind Campillo and Baldwin, two South Africans were a stroke behind on 10 under. Oliver Bekker and Branden Grace both shot second-round 66s to be in contention. DeAndre Yedlin Jersey . LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals activated reliever Jason Motte from the 15-day disabled list, and might need their old closer right away. Manager Mike Matheny said Trevor Rosenthal was unavailable Tuesday for the start of a three-game series against the Diamondbacks. The Cardinals had a day off Monday and Rosenthal is getting extra rest after his second blown save in five appearances. In his three seasons, Matheny has consistently declined to discuss bullpen availability before games. "He pitched four days in a row, didnt you hear?" Matheny snapped. Then he added "that was the plan from the beginning." Matheny said there wasnt a defined role for Motte, "except for right-handed pitcher." "Its just a matter of getting him comfortable on the mound," Matheny said. "It may be at a high leverage situation right off the bat." Rosenthal saved three straight games but faltered in the fourth, taking the loss to the Braves on Sunday. Matheny said it had been the "plan all along" to give Rosenthal two days off if he had to pitch in four straight. Nacho Fernandez Jersey. . "When you do push, you open yourselves to criticism," Matheny said. Rosenthal has appeared in 19 games. He is 0-2 with a 4.98 ERA and 13 saves in 15 chances. The 31-year-old Motte had elbow surgery last May and missed the entire season. He had 42 saves in 2012, tied for the National League lead. Motte said he was ready for anything and joked he didnt return with any new pitches. "Put it in the paper so other teams see it," Motte said. "Ive got like a knuckleball, Ive got a 12-6 (curveball), Ive got a rise ball, split. I talked to (Clayton) Kershaw and I have a left-handed sinker." Motte appeared in six games during a rehab with Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis and did not allow a run in 6 2-3 innings.
