EUGENE, Ore. http://www.ramsrookiestore.com/Rams-Jacob-Mcquaide-Jersey/ . -- Allyson Felix ran through the pain.Sanya Richards-Ross couldnt overcome it.And, in the strangest twist of all, Friday nights biggest track news came 3,000 miles away from the U.S. Olympic Trials, when a tweak in Usain Bolts hamstring threatened to derail the Jamaican champion and change everyones Olympic math.On a night Felix successfully auto-piloted her injured right ankle through 400-meter qualifying to keep her chance at a 200-400 double alive, Richards-Ross bid a tearful adieu to the fans, after pulling up 250 meters into her lap around the track -- her hamstring too tight to carry on.Ive had an amazing career, the 31-year-old Richards-Ross said. To have my last race be here, at Hayward Field, in front of these fans, its incredible. But it was Bolts hamstring that had the track world buzzing. At Jamaicas national championships in Kingston, Bolt never even made it to the track, pulling out with what he called a minor hamstring injury.Unlike the United States, where the top three finishers in each event qualify for the Olympics with no exceptions, Bolt can still make it to Rio if he can prove hes fit. That test will come July 22 at a meet in London.Possibly the biggest beneficiary would be Justin Gatlin, the American who has been Bolts biggest challenger the past few years. He starts qualifying in the 100 on Saturday.Richards-Ross, meanwhile, will have to settle for some fond memories and a heartfelt goodbye to her fans.In addition to her four Olympic gold medals, including the individual title at the London Games, Richards-Ross holds the stadium record in Eugene -- better known as Track Town USA. It was here, five weeks ago at the Prefontaine Classic, that fans got their first true glimpse of what might be coming. Richards-Ross finished seventh that day.In this one, her first 15 steps out of the blocks were smooth, but she quickly slowed from a sprint to a trot. By the time she hit the first curve on the backstretch, she was jogging. And then she pulled up completely.Lets be honest, I hurt my hamstring real bad, she said. I worked with a great doctor just to get out on the track today. After she pulled up, Richards-Ross walked to the finish line. Fans rose from their seats and Richards-Ross blew kisses. She earned as many of those fans through her failures as her successes -- her long battle with illness and injuries, her third-place finish in Beijing that left her weeping underneath the stands, then, finally, the gold medal in London. Most fans have seen my heart through my running, Richards-Ross said. I dont win every time I step on the track. I dont deserve the ovation because Im always a champion. But I think they see my heart, my determination, my desire to be a good person. Now, though, theyll be watching Felix and others finish up the 400.Felix finished second in her heat, posting a time of 51.96 seconds, then headed straight to the trainers room for treatment. She hurt the ankle in the spring and has had a rough time coming back -- forced to do most of her running the wrong way around the track so as not to put the injured ankle at more risk. She has less than 18 hours to recover. Her semifinal heat is set for Saturday afternoon.Other headlines from Day 1 at track trials:RUPP ROMP: Galen Rupp won the 10,000 meters in a time of 27 minutes, 55.04 seconds and is now qualified for both the 10K and the marathon. Rupp, the silver medalist at 10K in London, beat Shadrack Kipchirchir by more than 6 seconds. Leonard Korir also qualified. Rupp said hell also race in the 5K and then decide which races to enter at the Olympics.SHOT PUT: Adam Nelson was honored for his Olympic gold medal -- the one he won in 2004 -- during a ceremony before the shot put finals. Wearing a Best Dad Ever T-shirt with unicorns and a rainbow, the 40-year-old got the ceremony that didnt take place when he was upgraded from silver to gold because of a doping positive. But Nelson, who came out of retirement for trials, did not make the 2016 Olympic team. He finished ninth. The top three were Ryan Crouser, world champion Joe Kovacs and Jordan Clark.WAIT AND SEE: After making it easily through his first heat in the 400 meters, LaShawn Merritt said he was in Wait-and-See mode about trying to add the 200 to his schedule. Merritt has the worlds fastest time at 200 meters this year, but has never run the distance in a major meet. He said hell see how he feels when the 400 is over before he decides about the 200.RETIRING TYPES: 40-year-old high jumper Amy Acuff, a five-time Olympian, failed to qualify and said this was her last meet. Sprinter DeeDee Trotter is also calling it quits -- just not quite yet. The 33-year-old, who has two Olympic gold relay medals, made it through 400-meter qualifying but said shell be hanging it up whenever this season ends. http://www.ramsrookiestore.com/Customized/ . A lawyer for MLB, Matthew Menchel, confirmed Wednesday the league dropped its case against Biogenesis of America, its owner Anthony Bosch and several other individuals. The lawsuit had accused Biogenesis and Bosch of conspiring with players to violate their contracts by providing them with banned performance-enhancing substances. http://www.ramsrookiestore.com/Rams-Michael-Brockers-Jersey/ .S. -- Nikolaj Ehlers registered a hat trick for the third straight game and Jonathan Drouin had a goal and five assists as the Halifax Mooseheads hammered the host Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 10-1 on Tuesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. http://www.ramsrookiestore.com/Rams-Samson-Ebukam-Jersey/ . Anthony Calvillo, through 20 CFL seasons, was frequently invincible and largely stoic in the heat of competition. But underneath the professional exterior he was, and is, compellingly human. MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Longtime Memphis Grizzly Marc Gasol carried the team throughout the game. The teams newest member closed out an unexpected win.Gasol scored 36 points, but it was a pair of free throws by reserve guard Toney Douglas with less a second left that closed out Memphis 88-86 comeback victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night. We gave them everything we could. We just threw the kitchen sink at them, said Memphis coach David Fizdale, who watched his team overcome an 11-point deficit in the final 5 minutes. I dont know if we got lucky or what.Douglas last-second free throws gave him 11 points, including the games final six to seal Memphis fifth consecutive victory. The Grizzlies have won 12 straight that either went to overtime or were decided by five points or less.I wish I could tell you, Gasol said when asked about Memphis ability to pull out close games. We just keep fighting. Youve seen it in many games now where we just dont let go of the rope.Gasol was 13 of 24 from the field, including 4 of 6 from outside the arc. But Douglas, signed by Memphis this week because of injuries, took over down the stretch. The guard scored on a 19-footer with 34 seconds left, then converted two pairs of free throws in the last 20 seconds.CJ McCollum led the Trail Blazers with 24 points, and Damian Lillard had 19. Evan Turner had 15 points and 10 rebounds.Portland held a 79-68 lead after Al-Farouq Aminu scored inside with 5:28 left. But Memphis clicked off a 14-2 rally, Gasol collecting nine points in the stretch capped by a 30-footer from Troy Daniels with 1:35 remaining. The game settled into a one-possession contest at that point, including four ties. Portland center Mason Plumlee split a pair of free throws with 7 seconds left, and the Grizzlies pushed the ball down court. Douglas pump fake drew a foul from Lillard with a half-second remaining. Its a tough call, Lillard said. I think at that point of the game, there are some calls youu make, and there are some you just play basketball. http://www.ramsrookiestore.com/Hoodie/. You cant be as technical about it.TIP-INSBlazers: Turner started his first game of the season due to an injury to Maurice Harkless. ... G Allen Crabbe finished with seven points after scoring at least 14 in four straight games. ...Plumlee had four points, ending his streak of seven straight games in double figures.Grizzlies: Fizdale finally said enough about calls and no-calls late in the first half to earn a technical. Lillard missed the ensuing free throw to open the third. ...Gasol also got a tech in the third quarter for arguing a call. .Tony Allen had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Memphis. ... F JaMychal Green had a career-high 18 rebounds. His previous best was 17 this week in a win at New Orleans.EXTENSIONSEarlier Thursday, the Grizzlies announced they have agreed to multi-year extensions with general manager Chris Wallace, John Hollinger, executive vice president of basketball operations, and Ed Stefanski, executive vice president of player personnel. Terms were not disclosed.HARKLESS HURTPortland forward Maurice Harkless did not play because of a left ankle sprain suffered late in Portlands 115-107 loss at Milwaukee on Wednesday night. I remember him wincing. He was on the free throw line, Blazers coach Terry Stotts said. It was late in the game, like the last 2 minutes.HELLO, MR. DOUGLAS:Douglas was signed Monday by the team because of multiple injuries for the Grizzlies. His name isnt even on a locker. But Fizdale recognized the guards importance. We dont win that game without him. Fresh off the street, but thats who he is. .Hes a bulldog.UP NEXTTrail Blazers: Portland hits the middle game of a five-game trip, landing in Indiana on Saturday to face the Pacers.Grizzlies: Memphis continues its homestand Saturday against the Gold State Warriors. BOSTON -- Red Sox TV analyst Jerry Remy was hit in the head by a falling TV monitor as swirling winds caused havoc during the first inning at Fenway Park. http://www.atleticomadridpro.com/Kids-Nikola-Kalinic-Jersey/ .Remy was sent home from Bostons game Saturday night against the Minnesota Twins but is expected back Sunday. Former player Steve Lyons, also an analyst during some games, came in for Remy. The strong winds made for an interesting first.Minnesotas Robbie Grossman hit a fly that appeared headed for center, but a gust blew it to right, sending right fielder Michael Martinez twisting as the ball fell for a triple. There were a handful of stoppages as dirt and litter swirled around the field. Batters stepped out to wipe their eyes and Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez headed to the dugout to have a trainer help him clear his left eye.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. http://www.atleticomadridpro.com/Kids-Antoine-Griezmann-Jersey/ . Juventus says Pirlo underwent tests on Monday which revealed he has "a second-degree lesion to the collateral medial ligament in his right knee. CHAPECO, Brazil -- On a rainy Saturday that only accentuated the grief, 20,000 people filled a tiny stadium under umbrellas and plastic ponchos to say goodbye to members of the Chapecoense soccer club who died in a plane crash. The accident Monday in the Colombian Andes claimed most of the teams players and staff as it headed to the finals of one of Latin Americas most important club tournaments. Seventy-one of the 77 people on board died, including 19 players on the team.Rain-soaked mourners jammed the modest stadium with four or five times that many outside to pay homage to a modest club that nearly reached the pinnacle of Latin American soccer. In total, about half the population of the southern Brazilian city of 210,000 gathered.Thousands also lined the roads as the coffins were driven in a procession from the airport to the stadium memorial.Ive been here since early morning, said 19-year-old Chaiane Lorenzetti, who said she worked at a local supermarket frequented by club players and officials. Ill never see some of my clients again. Its a devastating day that will last forever.Soldiers wearing berets carried the coffins into the stadium on their shoulders, sloshing through standing water and mud on a field filled with funeral wreaths, club and national flags, and other tributes.A tent, with the coffins placed underneath, stretched across the width of the soccer field. On top of the white tent, a sentence from the clubs anthem was written for all to read.In happiness and in the most difficult hours, it said. You are always a winner.Family members and friends wept under the tents. Many hunched over the coffins with photos of the deceased placed on top or alongside as almost everything got splattered by the non-stop rain.Brazilian President Michel Temer, who had not planned to visit the stadium for fear of being jeered, showed up after greeting the arrival of the bodies at the airport. He was treated respectfully and was joined by Gianni Infantino, the head of FIFA -- the world governing body of soccer. This is a time for pain and suffering, not for talking, Infantino said. No words can diminish the suffering.Marco Polo Del Nero, the head of the Brazilian Football Confederation, was mildly applauded but also had insults shouted his way.Del Nero has been indicted by U.S. officials on corruption charges, although he has not been extradited. You only came here because its inside Brazil, one fan shouted, referring to the fact that Del Nero is likely to be arrested on a warrant if he leaves Brazil.Del Neros predecessor, Jose Maria Marin, is under house arrest in the United States awaiting a trial. He was among top soccer officials arrested 18 months in raids in Switzerland. The loudest applause was probably for Brazils new national team coach Adenor Leonardo Bacchi -- known universally as Tite (pronounced Chi-Chi). He has led Brazil to six straight victories since taking ovver, quickly becoming a national hero. http://www.atleticomadridpro.com/Kids-Jan-Oblak-Jersey/. Ivan Tozzo, the acting president of the club, told fans the club would continue on, and reminded them that it was here on this field where this club fought the good fight. This team taught us that everything is possible, he added, recalling the team rose in less than a decade from the depths of Brazilian club soccer to the final of the No. 2 tournament on the soccer-crazed continent. In closing he added, We are all Chapecoense.Chapeco Mayor Luciano Buligon, like several speakers, praised the aid Colombia provided -- along with the club Atletico Nactional, the team Chapecoense was to play in the two-game final.Atletico Nacional summed it all up on its website, the mayor said. Atletico said Chapecoense came to Medellin with a dream, and it leaves a legend. Legends dont die.The stadium memorial came after a heart-wrenching week for residents and family members stunned by the crash.Hundreds of banners, flags and handwritten messages hung around the stadium -- in Portuguese, Spanish and English. One sign in Spanish was aimed at Colombian officials who helped with the rescue. Six people survived, including three players.Colombia, Thanks For Everything it read. They deserve a farewell of champions, said Tatiana Bruno, who stood inside the stadium in the rain, wearing a plastic poncho to stay dry.It wasnt clear exactly how many coffins were brought into the stadium, though television reports put a rough count at 50. Most of the people who died, including the 19 players, were not from Chapeco and were to be buried elsewhere. The rain let up at the end of the two-hour memorial, lifting some of the gloom. It also allowed family members and friends to circle the field, many with photos raised high of the deceased.Ahead of the memorial, the bodies arrived in Chapeco on overnight flights from Colombia. The caskets were received by soldiers waiting in formation on the tarmac. Under heavy rain, they removed one at a time, wheeling them through standing puddles to vehicles to transport them to the stadium.Staff at the Jardim do Eden cemetery, where some victims will be buried, said on Friday they were used to the business of death, but not a tragedy of this size.We bury two people every day. Ive done this job for a long time, but this is different, said Dirceu Correa, caretaker of the cemetery. Martin Kaymer boosted his chances of ending a two-year winless run by moving within one stroke of the lead heading in to the final round of the Open de Espana. Patrick DiMarco Jersey . Latest leaderboard Open de Espana With swirling winds making scoring difficult at the notoriously testing former Ryder Cup venue, Kaymer mixed four birdies with as many bogeys to stay within one of Mike Lorenzo-Vera at the top of the leaderboard. The world No 56 followed back-to-back gains from the fourth with dropped shots at the seventh and ninth to reach the turn level par, but he moved up the leaderboard after a stunning approach set up a close-range birdie at the 10th. A five-foot gain at the next lifted the German within one of Andrew Johnston and overnight pacesetter Pablo Larrazabal, only for him to lose ground when bogeying the par-three next before giving up another shot at the 14th. Kaymer is one of three players sat in a tie for second at Valderrama Kaymer then holed a series of par saves along the closing stretch, including an excellent clutch putt at the last, to join Johnston and Joost Luiten on two-over for the week.I really, really enjoy the golf course, he said after a 71 which made him one of just six players to shoot par or better. If there was one course I could play for the rest of my life it would be this one.Obviously it was very hard to play the last couple of days, so to shoot level par like I did today was brilliant and makes it even more enjoyable.Johnston, who is looking to win his first European Tour title, had recovered from a bogey on the second with birdies on the fourth and fifth to reach two under, a shot ahead of playing partner Larrazabal.Larrazabal had bogeyed the third and three-putted the short sixth, with fellow Spaniard Alejandro Canizares and Englands Richard Bland a shot behind on level par. Andrew Johnston closed a three-over 74 After Johnston had lost the lead after bogeys on the seventh and 10th, he benefited from a two-shot swing on the par-five 11th thanks to his birdie and a six from Larrazabal, who pushed his approach wide of the green. That left Johnston as the only player under par with Larrazabal, Bland and Lorenzo-Vera on level par, with the latter producing a sublime shot on the 12th to chip in from heavy rough over the green. As Johnston went on a run of three consecutive bogeys, Lorenzo-Vera bounced back from successive blemishes from the 15th by holing his third shot at the par-five 17th to move in to a two-stroke advantage.  The Frenchman bogeyed the last to slip back over par for the week, with 16 players heading in to the final round within five shots of the lead. Larrazabal slipped down the leaderboard on Saturday Defending champion James Morrison sits in the group on three over, while a round-of-the-day 69 from Alex Noren lifts the Swede inside the top 20.Rafa Cabrera Bello and Thomas Pieters lie in a tie for 13th, with tournament hosting Sergio Garcia sitting a further stroke back after mixing five bogeys with a sole gain at the par-four 13th.  Watch the final round of the Open de Espana on Sunday from 10am on Sky Sports 4 - your home of golf. Three came down to the fourth quarter while quarterbacks continued to shine in all four games; so important to the overall quality of the game. OAKLAND, Calif. -- As two defenders closed in with the clock winding down in the third quarter, Kevin Durant bounced a perfect pass right to Stephen Curry open on the left wing. The two-time reigning MVP then hit one of those buzzer-beating 3-pointers he made so many times last season.Durant dazzled and scored 34 points in another efficient performance from the floor, Curry added 19 points with five 3-pointers and the Golden State Warriors quickly ran away from the overmatched Portland Trail Blazers in a 135-90 win Saturday night. There have been moments throughout the season where I wouldnt say youre surprised but its kind of just `Wow moments where you appreciate the talent on this squad all the way through, Curry said. Thats an amazing pass when hes obviously had it going from all over the floor and he recognized he had two people on him, found me and I was able to knock it down just in time.Durant shot 11 for 13 with four 3s in his seventh 30-point game and also pulled down 11 rebounds in nearly 31 minutes. Klay Thompson scored 16 points, Draymond Green had 12 rebounds and 11 assists, and reserve Ian Clark added a career-high 23 points in a lopsided rematch of the Western Conference semifinals won in five games by Golden State.Damian Lillard scored 20 points playing back home and Maurice Harkless had 17, but cold-shooting Portland looked a step or two behind all night and never could stay with the deep Warriors. Its embarrassing to get beat by 45, Portland coach Terry Stotts said. You want to play better against the best team in the league.Golden State won its fourth straight against Portland with the largest Warriors margin of victory in the rivalry, getting four more dunks and 11 points from JaVale McGee.Curry and Durant put on quite a show before their work was done and the fourth quarter once more belonged to the subs. That buzzer-beating 3 by Curry put Golden State up 108-72 heading into the final period, and the Warriors finished with 36 assists.Curry swished his first three 3s and then had a decent look another time but handed off to Durant, who shimmied past CJ McCollum and dribbled left intoo the paint before finishing with an emphatic one-handed slam with his right hand over Noah Vonleh. Ramon Humber Jersey. .Durant did it again midway through the second quarter, driving left and slamming it home. The passing was pretty again after Golden State had assists on its first 36 baskets Thursday against the Knicks on the way to 41 total. The Warriors notched 30 or more assists for an NBA-best 20th time this season.Lillard scored 31 against the Warriors in Golden States 127-104 win at Portland on Nov. 1, but didnt have enough help and the Blazers shot 39.5 percent. It was one of the best ones in the last couple weeks for sure because this is a hard team to guard, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said of the defense.PLAYERS RETURNZaza Pachulia returned to Golden States starting lineup after missing four games with a bruised right wrist and contributed seven rebounds. David West, who sustained a hip pointer in the fourth quarter Thursday against New York, also played.TIP-INSTrail Blazers: Stotts wouldnt confirm whether C Festus Ezeli was considering season-ending left knee surgery given he has yet to play for his new team. I really dont have any comment on it, on his health or any medical procedure until something is scheduled or somethings actually done, Stotts said. ... Portland has lost five in a row and 19 of 22 in Oakland.Warriors: Durant had his third game with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds. ... Curry has 105 3-pointers in 25 regular-season games against the Blazers, his most vs. any opponent. ... Green started his 200th regular-season game. ... Clark is 17 for 19 in two games this season facing Portland, 6 of 7 from 3-point range. He always stays ready, Curry said. ... Golden State is 14-0 in its alternate slate uniform and 26-3 all time.UP NEXTTrail Blazers: At Sacramento on Tuesday, looking for their eighth straight victory against the Kings and fourth in a row on the road.Warriors: Host Utah on Tuesday looking to beat the Jazz for the seventh straight time and 13th in 14. The worlds 10 best players have been whittled down to four so it is time to remember why Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor, Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis deserve their places in the Premier League Darts play-offs, which take place at The O2 on Thursday, live on Sky Sports. Kenny Britt Jersey . Michael van GerwenIt seems a long time ago that Van Gerwen started the season with a 4-7 defeat to James Wade in Leeds and perhaps therein lies the secret to defeating the mighty Dutchman. Check out MVGs only loss of the season so far... Back-to-back wins over fellow semi-finalists Anderson and Lewis, in Newcastle and Dublin respectively, were followed by a 7-1 thrashing of Michael Smith that yielded a 123 average, the highest in televised history. He stormed to the top of the league with a 7-2 win against Peter Wright in Exeter that sparked debate about whether he is already the greatest player in the history of darts. A top-of-the-table clash against Taylor in Glasgow saw Van Gerwen relinquish a 5-1 lead to draw 6-6. Michael van Gerwen missed three winning darts against Phil Taylor He made it three draws in a row after Robert Thornton and Raymond van Barneveld caused him to wobble in Liverpool and Cardiff, handing top spot to Taylor. He drew with Anderson then beat Lewis to solidify his play-off push before a 7-1 win against Wade put him top of the league. Even missing a nine-darter with his final arrow could not prevent Van Gerwen picking up maximum points against Van Barneveld in Manchester. Michael van Gerwen almost pulled off a nine-darter against Raymond van Barneveld Van Gerwen finished the regular season in No 1 spot on leg-difference after besting Taylor 7-5 in his home country of the Netherlands.Phil TaylorA thumping 2-7 loss on the opening night to Van Barneveld was not what the doctor ordered, but Taylor rebounded with wins against Wade in Newcastle and Anderson in Dublin. The 16-time world champion proved he meant business with a whitewash over Thornton in the sixth week.Taylor brilliantly recovered from 5-1 down to Van Gerwen in Glasgow to snatch a draw, then was typically ruthless as he eliminated Michael Smith from the tournament with a 7-5 win on Judgement Night. Phil Taylor eliminated Michael Smith from the tournament He then dispatched Anderson 7-3 in Sheffield before extending his lead at the top of the table to five points with a 7-5 victory over long-time rival Van Barneveld in Belfast. The winning leg as Phil Taylor trumped Barney A 7-4 loss to Wright never caused a major blip and Taylor responded with a 7-2 thrashing over fellow semi-finalist Lewis before losing to Van Gerwen in Rotterdam, resulting in a second-placed finish. This 7-2 win against Robert Thornton guaranteed Phil Taylor a play-off spot Gary AndersonAndersons Premier League title defence began bizarrely as he was ruled out of the opening night due to illness, meaning he debuted a week late with a 7-3 loss to Van Gerwen in Newcastle before losing 7-4 to Taylor in Dublin. Gary Anderson suffered an early loss to MVG The Flying Scotsman finally started putting points on the board before a bumper night in Glasgow, spurred on by his compatriots, resulted in two wins over Lewis and Wright. He even picked up a point despite oddly losing count against Wade in Cardiff as the play-offs began to present themselves. A second loss of the season to Taylor was followed by a thrilling 6-6 draw with Van Gerwen in Belfast. Watch the moment Gary Anderson got his numbers horribly wrong Needing to scrap to stay ahead of the chasing pack, Anderson edged past Van Barneveld before drawing with Wade to confirm his inclusion. A defeat on the final day to Lewis did nothing to damage Andersons third-place finish.Adrian LewisThe Stoke thrower started with back-to-back wins against Smith and Dave Chisnall, who would eventually be eliminated on Judgement Night, but ran out of ideas in a third-week loss to Van Gerwen. A sensational final leg between Adrian Lewis and James Wade Further defeats to Taylor, Wright and Anderson forced Lewis to scramble around mid-table but he responded with a much-needed win against Van Barneveld in Liverpool. He eventually struck the most eye-catching moment of the season with a nine-darter against Wade in Belfast en route to a 7-5 win that put him in the drivers seat for fourth-place. Watch Adrian Lewis hit a nine-darter A final night 7-2 win against Anderson confirmed his play-off spot - the result is the only time that Lewis has beaten any of his top four rivals so far this season.Watch the Premier League Darts play-offs from The O2 Arena on Thursday at 7pm, Sky Sports 2 HD. It left racing fans across Australia and the world with many great memories of fantastic racing on the track and many great performances by highly gifted and, in some cases, some very expensive thoroughbreds. Some will go on to even greater heights, such as Winx, whom we are all hoping can stretch her Cox Plate streak to a record-equaling three wins next October. Similarly, Guineas and Derby-winning colts and fillies will be looking to see their stock prices reach new peaks with even richer successes. But for some horses, their racing careers might be coming to an end. What happens then? An event in Melbourne this week -- Equitana -- showcases just how horses, successful or unsuccessful on the track, can continue their competitive prospects in some very positive ways.Beginning on Thursday, Equitana is a four-day competition and exhibition with shows and events for everything equine; from stock horses to brumbies and thoroughbreds in show jumping to barrel racing. If you like horses of all sorts, and can get to Melbourne, then ESPN may now have sorted your weekend for you.A key part of Equitana will be participation of thoroughbreds in the off the track showjumping and showing showcases -- a program spearheaded by Racing Victoria, the governing body of thoroughbred racing in that state. One competitor who will garner a lot interest is Sirmione, formerly trained by 12-time Melbourne Cup-winning trainer and racing legend, the late Bart Cummings.Twice a Group 1 winner, Sirmione won the 2007 Mackinnon Stakes in an upset result at 60-1 and the 2008 Australian Cup, both over 2000 metres at Flemington. A life at stud was never an option for the gelding but a career in other competitive sport was; and he has become comparatively successful. He was a very well put together animal, Peter Mertens, who rode Sirmione to both Group 1 wins, told ESPN. He always had show stamped on him.Ive seen some of them coming through racing and they dont do too well as a winning prospect on the track but theyve been very good at showjumping, added the seven-time Group 1-winning jockey who now enjoys his own retirement from race riding. He used to get around the mounting yard and carry himself really well. He had that look about him. He was always on his toes and had that really good look about him. It is no surprise at all that hes gone on to do well there.Mertens said he rated Sirmione one of the best horses that he had achieved such high levels of success aboard. From his racing days spent at Cummings stable at Flemington, Sirmione is now under the care of Off The Track trainer Fiona McIntyre; he calls Inverleigh home, west of Melbourne.McIntyre is a trainer of show horses who has also now turned her attention to re-training thoroughbreds towards new horizons. Not all ex-racehorses have the temperament to ggo onto these [different] disciplines, McIntyre said. http://www.officiallionsgear.com/Lions-Tavon-Wilson-Draft-Jersey/. Sirmione took to showing incredibly well. His transition from being a racehorse to was one of the easiest that I have been involved in.He behaves and doesnt bat an eye lid on the big stages; he goes out and performs every time.Sirmione enjoyed a second placing at last years Adelaide Show. There has some very negative press over time on the treatment of horses in their post-racing days, and historically there were few options for thoroughbreds to continue in a competitive environment. Racing Victorias manager of equine welfare Raelene Harrison says there has been significant progress made in the past few years to bring about positive change.Harrison said that 40 re-trainers had been accredited under Off The Track since the program commenced in 2012, and Racing Victoria hoped to see 20 more in the next 18 months.A challenge for racings authorities has been to pave a way for the growing number of horses retiring and steering them towards other positive opportunities. Many more thoroughbreds are now going into new stables and mixing it with other breeds. Some take to it, others dont.Success on the track isnt necessarily a pre-requisite for success off of it, but Sirmione is leading the charge on the for retired racehorses on the equestrian stage while another blue-riband performer, 2006 Group 1 Australian Derby winner Headturner, is leading a sedate life as a pleasure-riding horse for a 75-year-old lady on the Victoria beachside suburb of Leongatha. The competitive circuit is expanding. These horses have had the opportunity to return to the races in their current pursuits at demonstration events held during racemeetings at Caulfield and Mornington. Spectators have been able to get up close to showjumping events with temporary, but attractive, courses set up on the public lawns.Precedence is another Cummings-trained successful galloper who is destined to perform off the track under McIntyres care. The gelding notched two wins in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) and ran in four Melbourne Cups, with his best result a sixth placing in 2014. A year after retiring from racing, McIntyre is about to embark on the geldings retraining towards a showjumping career. The expansion and willingness of thoroughbred racing participants to progress their retired chargers to showing or dressage has been a boost for the competitive equine industries, too.To be fair, we only used to get the slow ones who didnt make it into our stables but now there are top-line performers like Sirmione coming through, McIntyre said.Equitana Melbourne is being held at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds until Sunday. The thoroughbreds will take centre stage on Friday and Sunday. Arkansas is tied with No. 8 South Carolina (9-0-1) on top of SEC standings with three conference wins each.Freshman Stefani Doyle put the Razorbacks on the board 1-0 in the 28th minute, taking advantage of a tangle of players along the left corner of the goal to put the ball into the back of the net. We will enjoy this tonight and prepare for a good Ole Miss team tomorrow.Reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Week goalkeeper Cameron Carter improved to 10-1 on the season, logging three saves in the contest.Arkansas held a 20-11 advantage over the Crimson Tide in shots with eight on goal, and an 8-5 edge in corners. The Razorbacks will next face Ole Miss (6-5-0, 1-2-0) in Oxford, Mississippi, on Sunday in a nationally televised match on SEC Network at 2 p.m. CT. PITTSBURGH -- Connor McDavid skated into the faceoff circle and looked up and there he was: his childhood idol Sidney Crosby. Nick Markakis Jersey .The NHLs future vs. the NHLs present. And as mature as the Edmonton Oilers rising 19-year-old star can be on the ice, even he was a momentarily starstruck by the Pittsburgh Penguins captain. The proof came in what happened next.It was pretty funny that I take the opening draw against him and have him snap it back, McDavid said. I dont even think I got my stick on it.The jitters vanished almost instantly. McDavid more than held his own in his first meeting with the two-time MVP, picking up three assists. The Penguins, however, rallied for a 4-3 victory behind Conor Shearys two goals, including the winner with 1:42 left.Every game were down two we still think we have a chance to win, Sheary said. Nothing was different for us tonight.Evgeni Malkin and Carl Hagelin also scored for Pittsburgh while Matt Murray stopped 25 shots in his first home start since Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.Crosby was held without a point for the first time this season but helped start the deciding sequence by creating a turnover behind the Edmonton net eventually became a goal when Oilers forward Benoit Pouliots clear attempt smacked off Sheary and by Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot.I dont know who whacked it, but it ended up in the back of the net, Sheary said. The Penguins won their fourth straight and remained unbeaten in regulation (6-0-1) while also praising McDavid and the upstart Oilers, who are atop the Pacific Division by playing a blazing end-to-end game that dares opponents to keep up. McDavids line provided all three goals, with Jordan Eberle getting two and Patrick Maroon getting the other, all on set-ups by McDavid. He doesnt need a lot of time and space, Crosby said. Its one thing to kind of watch games and see it, but out there you can really tell he needs no time and space at all. If youre even with him, youre in big trouble so you better make sure youre a step ahead. The Penguins took a 1-0 lead 1:57 in on Shearys goal before McDavid went to work proving what the fuss was all about. He kickstarted a mini 2-on-1 with Eberle and slipped a short crossing pass to his teammate that Eberle buried over Murrays glove 14:23 into the first. McDavid was a blur less than three minutes later, racing into the Pittsburgh zone then weaving his way around defenseman Brian Dumoulin before finding Maroon.Theyre quick, theres no question, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. They play a similar game to us. I thought we handled it just fine. I thought the pace of the game was fast. It was an exciting game to be a part of.The Penguins, fresh off a 3-0-1 road trip fueled by a resurgent Crosby, briefly found themselves flat-footed trying to keep pace. Talbot turned away a 4-on-1 break to set up an Edmonton rush that ended with Eberle skating in alone on Murray before sending the puck past the sprawled goaltender.Pittsburgh recovered to tie it, with Hagelin burying a rebound late in the second to bring the Penguins within a goal and Malkin tying it 5:33 into the third with a backhand deflection. The Penguins kept the pressure up late, resulting in Shearys second of the night and third of the season.Theyre never out of a game, McDavid said. You can be up 3-1, but they have so much offensive firepower and they can find a way either way, no matter what.Game notes Pittsburgh has three third-period comeback wins, tied for the most in the league. ... The Penguins scratched F Tom Kuhnhackl and Ds Chad Ruhwedel and Steve Olesky. ... Edmonton scratched Fs Zack Kassian and Taylor Beck and D Dillon Simpson. ... The Penguins went 0 for 3 on the power play. The Oilers were 0 for 2. .. Pittsburgh has a 12-game unbeaten streak (9-0-3) against the Oilers dating back to Dec. 5, 2007.UP NEXTEdmonton: Returns home to face Dallas on Friday.Penguins: Continue three-game homestand on Thursday against Minnesota. OLYMPICSMOSCOW -- Russias top Olympic official says he expects a final decision by Sunday on whether the entire Russian team will be banned from next months games in Rio.The International Olympic Committee is examining the legal options following a report by World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren that accused Russias sports ministry of overseeing doping of the countrys Olympic athletes.Russian Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov says the issue will be finally resolved by the end of this week, probably on Sunday. The Court of Arbitration for Sport will issue its verdict Thursday on Russias appeal to overturn the IAAF ban on its track and field athletes for the games. The IOC will take that into account before making its own decision.RIO DE JANEIRO -- The World Anti-Doping Agency said it has reinstated the laboratory that will carry out drug testing for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, which start in just over two weeks. The lab was shuttered last month for what WADA called nonconformity with International Standard for Laboratories. In a statement, WADA says the Rio laboratory has successfully complied with the ISLs requirements for reinstatement and no further suspension is required. The statement will be a relief for local organizers and the International Olympic Committee, which would have been forced to send thousands of samples abroad for testing. The Rio Olympics have faced myriad problems: the Zika epidemic, soaring crime and security worries, slow ticket sales and severe water pollution in venues for sailing, rowing, canoeing, triathlon and distance swimming.COLLEGE FOOTBALLPRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League will use an experimental rule this season to move kickoffs to the 40-yard line and touchbacks to the 20-yard line in an effort to reduce concussions and further promote the safety and welfare of its student-athletes.The goal of the experimental rule is to limit kickoff returns, which account for 23.4 percent of concussions during games despite representing only 5.8 percent of overall plays. The Ivy League will evaluate the concussion and kickoff return data after the season. The request was made to the NCAA as a part of The Ivy Leagues overall review of concussions, which began with football in 2010 and has included eight other sports to date (mens and womens lacrosse, mens and womens ice hockey, mens and womens soccer, wrestling, rugby). It will only be used in conference games.AUTO RACINGINDIANAPOLIS -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not race again this month because of concussion-like symptoms and the No. 88 car will be turned over to trusted former teammate Jeff Gordon for the next two weeks.Hendrick Motorsports announced that Earnhardt has not yet been cleared to drive by doctors and will miss Sundays Brickyard 400 as well as next weekends race at Pocono. NASCARs most popular driver has been battling balance issues and nausea since a July 2 crash at Daytona.Earnhardt pulled himself out of the car last weekend in New Hampshire and was replaced by Alex Bowman. After another medical evaluation Tuesday in Pittsburgh, doctors told Earnhardt to take more timme off. Hank Aaron Jersey. .Team owner Rick Hendrick says the team is looking forward to having NASCARs most popular driver back racing soon.Gordon is the only five-time winner of the Brickyard 400 and race organizers billed the 2015 race as his last ride in Indy. Since retiring at the end of last season, he served primarily as a commentator for Fox Sports.SOCCERLONDON -- Russias hosting of the World Cup is becoming increasingly problematic for FIFAs leaders after the International Olympic Committee withdrew support for sporting events being staged in the doping-tainted nation. The IOCs move followed this weeks second damning World Anti-Doping Agency report, which accused Russia of state-sponsored doping. The scandal landed at FIFAs door after Russian soccer was for the first time implicated in the alleged doping cover-up by a country that has been entrusted with soccers most prestigious event in 2018.Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, whose department is accused of orchestrating the deception, is also head of the countrys soccer federation and is a member of FIFAs ruling council.Soccers governing body is standing by the 2018 hosts -- just as it has done throughout six years of scrutiny since the contentious vote to hand the World Cup to Russia for the first time.HOCKEYNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A chancellor will rule within the week on whether a co-owner of the Nashville Predators can keep his lawsuit against the teams ownership group in a Tennessee court or have to submit to arbitration.Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle heard nearly three hours of arguments on a motion that would force David Freeman out of her court and back into arbitration with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.Freeman, a former team chairman, sued Predators Holdings LLC and current team chairman Tom Cigarran on June 23 and is seeking $250 million in damages for his original 48 percent stake in the team being diluted. The lawsuit states that Freeman, through Commodore Trust, organized the Holdings investment group in 2007 to keep the Predators in Nashville. But it charges that some Holdings members have conspired to repay his dedication to the team and community by claiming that Commodore owns less than one percent of Holdings.COLLEGE BASKETBALLKNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The NCAA has donated $50,000 to the Pat Summitt Foundation in memory of the late Tennessee coach. The money will go toward the Summitt Foundations goal of raising $2.5 million for the Pat Summitt Alzheimers Clinic at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, which is scheduled to open in December.Foundation director Patrick Wade thanked the NCAA for its support in the fight against Alzheimers. The NCAAs donation and money donated since Summitt died June 28 will be used for research, treatment and support of Alzheimers patients and families in Tennessee.Summitt was the winningest Division I college basketball coach with 1,098 wins over 38 seasons. The wait continues for the Vancouver Whitecaps. http://www.texansrookiestore.com/Texans-Lamar-Miller-Jersey/ . Since joining Major League Soccer in 2011, the Caps have been unable to win against their Cascadia foes; the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers. The latest disappointment came Saturday night at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, where the Whitecaps wasted a great opportunity to get all three points. Instead, they came away with nothing after a second half performance where they fell apart defensively, letting slip a 2-1 halftime lead against a severely understrength Seattle team that was missing six players due to international call ups, injuries and suspensions. Beating their Pacific Northwest rivals for the first time was one of the objectives set out by Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie ahead of this season, and now in two attempts so far this year they have fallen short. On both occasions, they were holding a lead as they headed into the closing stages of the match. Poor defending cost them at home to Portland last month in a 2-2 draw, and again on Saturday, they were undone by individual mistakes and some below par performances. In Seattle, an injury to central defender Andy OBrien influenced the outcome of the match, but even before the Republic of Ireland international went off, it seemed only a matter of time before the home team would find the tying goal. The second half fight back from the Sounders overshadowed an excellent first 45 minutes from the Caps and a couple of really well taken headed goals by Camilo. They were playing a high tempo, getting forward well and rarely looking threatened defensively. But it was a different story after the break. Had referee Hilario Grajeda not made a terrible call to award a free kick instead of a penalty, the Sounders would have had a spot kick before OBriens injury. When Jun Marques Davidson hacked down Obafemi Martins inside the box, it was a lucky escape for the Whitecaps when the referee thought the incident had occurred outside the penalty area. It was clearly the wrong call. However, there was no denying the Sounders a penalty later in the half when substitute Greg Klazura made a reckless challenge on Lamar Neagle. After, Servando Carrasco tied the match from the resulting penalty, the Sounders then won the game with a goal from Lamar Neagle after good work by Martins. It was a well worked goal, but the Caps defending made it far too easy for the Sounders to find a path to goal. So it was a familiar feeling for Whitecaps fans. A thousand of them had travelled down the I-5 and they contributed to a fantastic atmosphere with a crowd of over 53,000 packed into CenturyLink. But for those Caps fans in the stadium and watching at home, it was the same old story - a massive letdown in one of the games that matters most against one of their biggest rivals. In a Western Conference filled with quality, the Whitecaps now have a three match stretch against teams they really need to beat if they are to challenge for the playoffs this year. Back-to-back home matches plus a trip to the leagues worst team DC United will provide the opportunity to close the five point gap between the Caps and the top five. Martin Rennie has talked about the need to make it count at times when the schedule gets more favourable for his team, but in their current situation that is now looking like a major challenge. The defence is a major concern. With Jay DeMerit out long term, and Andy OBrien, Brad Rusin and Caryle Mitchell injured, Rennies team will have to face this crucial stretch with a makeshift backline. The loss of OBrien is a massive blow, not only because of his own defending, but the way in which he organizes those around him. The trade of Alain Rochat last week now looks to have come at a bad time, as the Whitecaps really need additional bodies at the back. So there are big challenges ahead for a club that has not met expectations so far this year. There is plenty of quality within the squad, but it is getting to the stage in the season where that quality has to produce on a more consistent basis rather than letting points slip away, otherwise the Whitecaps will find themselves with too much ground to make up. http://www.texansrookiestore.com/Texans-Ka-Imi-Fairbairn-Jersey/ . Pert has formerly spent time as an assistant coach with Cardiff City, Coventry City, and Bahrain mens national team. "Martyn is a highly-respected coach with experience at the top levels in England," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. http://www.texansrookiestore.com/Texans-Marcus-Gilchrist-Jersey/ . -- Ken Appleby made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season to lead the Oshawa Generals to a 2-0 win over the Belleville Bulls on Wednesday in Ontario Hockey League action. http://www.texansrookiestore.com/Texans-Jadeveon-Clowney-Jersey/ . Burris threw two TD passes, including a key 15-yard fourth-quarter strike to Bakari Grant that effectively countered a Toronto comeback bid and led Hamilton to a 33-19 victory. Warm-up matches, say players and coaches, are for getting miles in legs, adapting to local climes, choosing a team and forming a plan for that XI. If this is the criteria, then Englands three days - it was supposed to be four, but for a soggy outfield - at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong can be filed under successes. The most important selection headache was solved as Alastair Cook hopped off a plane at Chittagong Airport on Monday afternoon, back in time for his 134th Test match, which will make him Englands most-capped player, overtaking Alec Stewart. The plan for Cook, to head home for the birth of his second child, could hardly have gone better. On Tuesday, as the rest of the squad enjoy a day on the golf course or by the pool, Cook will head to the nets; he felt in fine fettle on his week-long jaunt to Bangladesh during the ODI series, and two days training should be adequate for a man of his experience. What of the other ten players, then? Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett, the candidates to open with Cook, had fine weekends, each living up to their billing. After scoring his third and fourth half-centuries and not being dismissed across 164 deliveries, Duckett will surely debut, but Hameeds efforts mean it will likely be from No.4.The sight of Gary Ballance wandering out after tea, only when Hameeds 125-ball 57 had been retired, seemed to confirm there was a vacancy in the middle order. Ballance was another to go unbeaten over the two innings - with 27 then 36 - but he lacked comfort or fluency. Jos Buttlers chances seem to be over for now (he made 4, including a dropped catch, before slicing to point), although it would be a great surprise if he does not play at some stage during the seven Tests before Christmas; Trevor Bayliss, Englands coach, remains desperate to get him in.Perhaps the most heartening aspect of Ducketts performances was that he displayed various gears. Sure, Saturdays innings was a mighty impressive display of dash and timing, but on Monday, he dug in; his first 25 runs took 70 balls before he scored 27 off his next 21. The unorthodoxy displayed during the ODI series - when he was not at his most fluent, but battled hard - was back, with reverse sweeps and peculiar scoring areas. By lunch on Monday, Bayliss had seen enough, even if the birthday boy (22 today) wanted to bat on.Hameed conformed to type. His forward defensive is an oft-seen, elegant lunge, with the ball seldom failing to connect with his bats midddle. http://www.texansrookiestore.com/Texans-Andre-Hal-Jersey/. . He leaves as much as he can, off seam and spin, but does have boundary options, seen most notably when he sent three consecutive deliveries from Ebadat Hossain for four with a straight drive, a late cut, then a pull. For all the Boycott talk, Bangladeshs bowling coach Courtney Walsh thinks he resembles Mike Atherton, but his team-mates are reminded of Joe Root in India in 2012 - boyish, skinny (and running plenty of twos as a result) but ready. A debut surely awaits.Root will bat at No 3, with the moveable feast of allrounders Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow between No.5 and No.7; it is unclear in which order they will appear, but all three have plenty of responsibility in the field, so it may be fluid. Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid, who was kept under wraps here, will follow, with Gareth Batty likely to beat Zafar Ansari to the third spinners position, and Stuart Broad batting at No.11. All eleven players will have first-class hundreds.England learnt just as much in the field, and improved markedly as the bowlers located their rhythm and acclimatised to the searing heat on a flat pitch. There were two dropped catches in 44 overs on Saturday, but none in 75 on Sunday, while Root will have plenty to feed back to Cook about field placings. Both Bairstow and Buttler have had a go behind the stumps, and three short legs have been trialled too, but Hameed seems the favoured option.Certainly, all-out attack with the new ball - which did not swing much for Woakes - seems unlikely, and Root soon had close catchers in front of the bat instead of a packed cordon. The lack of swing, coupled with the morning session hosting the most brutal heat of the day, may see a defensive approach early on. While reverse was not found here - perhaps because the outfield was more vegetable patch than lawn and the pitch was flat and unabrasive - England expect to find it at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.Finn all but confirmed the plan to use three seamers (of which he does not think he will be one) and three spinners - pending a pitch inspection on Wednesday, of course. But the last lesson England learned here came from Bangladesh themselves: by including in their 14-man squad four specialist spinners and just two seamers - who may not even both play - the tourists know precisely the challenge ahead. England lock Joe Launchbury has been appointed Wasps captain for the 2016-17 season. Alan Page Jersey .The 35-times capped Launchbury replaces international team-mate James Haskell -- who will miss most of the season after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his big toe -- and prop Matt Mullan who were co-captains last season.Launchbury joined Wasps from Worthing as a 19-year-old in 2009 and is closing in on 100 appearances for the Aviva Premiership club.Joe is a natural leader around the place and I think he has grown with the responsibility of being a leader and an international over the last couple of seasons, Wasps director of rugby Dai Young told the official club website. He has already proven himself as a world-class player and Im sure the captaincy will only help him grow again.Unfortunately, James picked up a nasty injury while playing for England which means he will miss a major chunk of Wasps season. That in itself makes it difficult to do the job of captain, but we also want him to be a little bit selfish and focus on himself so he can concentrate all his energy on getting back to full fitness as soon as possible.Matt has been around the captaincy role for almost three years now and while it is a big honour, people dont see all the extra work that goes in behind the scenes and the off-field commitments that go with the captaincy role. From my point of view, I feel three years is probably the right amount of time before then passing the baton on and have someone else step up.Launchbury, 25, said: Its a massive honour to have been named captain and something I am very excited about. We have a squad packed full of talent so its now important we hit the season running.
